Now Saffiedine, after another fairly lengthy layoff of 10 months, returns against Rory MacDonald in the headliner of UFC Fight Night 54 on Saturday

UFC Fight Night 34 drug testing results announced

All 20 fighters who competed at UFC Fight Night 34 underwent drug testing after the event and successfully passed their tests. MMAjunkie today confirmed the results with UFC representatives. Additionally, UFC reps said there were no therapeutic-use exemptions for testosterone or any other substance issued for the event. UFC Fight Night 34 took place Jan. 4 at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. The entire card, including Tarec Saffiedine’s hard-fought unanimous-decision win over Hyun Gyu Lim, was the first to stream live on UFC Fight Pass

Tarec Saffiedine open to rebooking with Ellenberger after UFC Fight Night 34 win

While Tarec Saffiedine dominated Hyun Gyu Lim for the majority of five rounds at UFC Fight Night 34, he doesn’t think the performance puts him above facing his originally scheduled opponent for the event, Jake Ellenberger. Saffiedine (15-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) took decision win over Lim (12-4-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and extended his winning streak to five consecutive bouts. Ellenberger (29-7 MMA, 8-3 UFC), on the other hand, is coming off a loss to Rory MacDonald and has not fought since this past July

How did it measure up to expectations? Read on to find out. * * * * Fowlkes: Well Danny, Saturday marked the first live event on the UFC’s Fight Pass digital network. Right off I’ll admit that I didn’t watch the whole thing live on account of it starting at around 4 a.m. in my time zone (and also on account of me having a daughter not yet old enough to understand the phrase, “Daddy needs a nap because he woke up in the middle of the night to watch people he’s never heard of fight each other”).

UFC Fight Night 34 was a card filled with largely unknown fighters, but when the stream for the debut event on UFC Fight Pass came to a conclusion, several competitors had turned in shining performances. From Singapore’s main event all the way down to the first prelim, the fighters did their best to leave a strong impression for viewers. Most did, but three stood out above the rest. With that in mind, here are the three stars from “UFC Fight Night 34: Saffiedine vs. Lim.” Third Star: Max Holloway A “Knockout of the Night” bonus is hard to ignore, and for 22-year-old Max Holloway (8-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC), the extra $50,000 he received for his thrilling finish over featherweight Will Chope (19-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is likely a life-changing sum of money for the youngster. Holloway had trouble with the height and length of his foe in the early stages of the matchup, but as any seasoned striker should, the Hawaiian adapted to the situation and found his groove as the fight wore on

Luiz Dutra apologizes for DQ but says Kunimoto ‘played it up to some extent’

Luiz Dutra simply got lost in the moment when he suffered a disqualification loss at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 34, but he said his opponent isn’t completely innocent in the ordeal. In his promotional debut, Dutra (11-3-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) said he got overly aggressive in the welterweight main-card bout. That led to some illegal elbows to underdog Kiichi Kunimoto (16-5-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who took some of the downward shots to the back of his head. With Kunimoto unable to continue, the fight was waved off, and Dutra was stuck with the DQ defeat. “I think he really felt the first elbow,” Dutra told MMAjunkie.

Quinn Mulhern announces retirement following UFC Fight Night 34 loss

UFC fighter, Strikeforce vet and former King of the Cage champion Quinn Mulhern has announced his retirement. The 29-year-old, who fought 22 times since his pro debut in 2007, made the announcement following Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 34 loss to Katsunori Kikuno in Singapore. Mulhern, who dropped from welterweight to lightweight for the bout, suffered the decision loss (via 30-27 scores) on the event’s preliminary card. Mulhern went 3-1 in Strikeforce, which included a split-decision victory over Yuri Villefort, before signing with the UFC in early 2013. However, he suffered a TKO loss to Rick Story in his promotional debut and then the decision defeat to Kikuno on Saturday. According to Mulhern (18-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC), a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who unified KOTC’s world and Canadian welterweight titles in 2010, his camp went well for his latest fight, but he realized he just “won’t be competitive at this level.” His announcement (via Facebook ): Hey guys
