UFC Fight Night 36 drug tests come back clean

The Brazilian MMA athletic commission (CABMMA) on Monday announced that drug tests were performed for all fighters at UFC Fight Night 36, and the results came back negative. In addition, the commission told MMAjunkie that no fighters on the card requested therapeutic-use exemptions for testosterone-replacement therapy for the event. That is in stark contrast to UFC Fight Night 32 in November, which took place in Goiania, Brazil. For that event, headliners Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson each were granted TUEs for TRT

UFC Fight Night 36 medical suspensions: Lyoto Machida gets longest term

Although he now appears to be clear of serious injury, Lyoto Machida received the longest suspension of fighters at UFC Fight Night 36. Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) today released medical suspensions from the event, which took place this past Saturday at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Machida, who outpointed Gegard Mousasi in the night’s headliner, received a 180-day suspension but can be cleared to fight if he produces an X-ray that shows his left foot isn’t broken, as he reported following the five-round bout

Lyoto Machida, Ronaldo Souza discuss potential Brazilian-vs.-Brazilian title fight

There are two things UFC middleweight contenders Lyoto Machida and Ronaldo Souza seem to agree on. For one, they have no desire to fight a Brazilian for a coveted shot at the title. And two, if that’s the only option, they’ll easily forget that first thing. Machida and “Jacare” both emerged victorious in their respective co-headliners this past Saturday at the FOX Sports 1-televised UFC Fight Night 36 event at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Machida (21-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) earned a five-round decision victory over Gegard Mousasi (34-4-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in the headliner, and a fight prior, Souza (20-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) topped Francis Carmont (22-8 MMA, 6-1 UFC) on the judges’ scorecards

You’ve got to wonder what was going through the mind of the fan in Jaragua do Sul who stole Lyoto Machida ’s hat as the fighter made his walk to the cage early Sunday morning at UFC Fight Night 36. It’s a jerk move to begin with, but one also rooted in some sort of weird, jerkish tradition. If you wanted to make the argument that MMA fans are crass, inconsiderate people, the hat-stealing thing would be a pretty decent place to start. Who does that?

The UFC traveled to the MMA hotbed of Brazil for the 13th time on Saturday night for “UFC Fight Night 36: Machida vs. Mousasi,” which went down inside Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil. Lyoto Machida (21-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) had his hand raised for the second time since dropping to the UFC’s middleweight division with a decision victory over Gegard Mousasi (34-4-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in the main event of the evening after a striking-heavy affair that lasted all five rounds. The undercard also had a number of notable winners, as Ronaldo Souza (20-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC), Erick Silva (16-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC), Nicholas Musoke (12-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Charles Oliveira (17-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) all earned victories over their respective opponents. After every event, fans wonder whom the winners will be matched up with next. That’s the bad news, at least for them. That and the fact that both Lyoto Machida and Ronaldo Souza emerged from their respective fights with wounds that could range from nagging to disabling, and wins that were decisive and unambiguous, if not spectacular
