Rustam Khabilov at UFC Fight Night 42 Former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson got his first stoppage victory since 2010 with a fourth-round submission of Rustam Khabilov at UFC Fight Night 42. The finish really was “Smooth” as Henderson hurt Khabilov with a strike on the feet and transitioned to a slick rear-naked choke for the win.

UFC Fight Night 43 drug tests come back clean

Drug tests from UFC Fight Night 43 have come back negative for performance-enhancers and drugs of abuse. A UFC official today told MMAjunkie that all tests issued at the June 28 card in Auckland, New Zealand, came back without any issues. UFC Fight Night 43 took place at Vector Arena in Auckland and was the UFC’s first visit to New Zealand. The entire card streamed on UFC Fight Pass

Back on track, Robert Whittaker wants on UFC’s next Australia show

Riding a two-fight losing skid, including the first knockout loss of his MMA career, Robert Whittaker needed to get back on track in a big way over the weekend. He did just that with a unanimous decision sweep of the scorecards – and he did it in front of a very pro-Whittaker crowd. Whittaker (12-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC), born in New Zealand and now living in Australia, cruised past Mike Rhodes (6-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 43 in Auckland to snap his slump.

‘The Hangman’ Hooker aiming for Japan, hoping Entwistle loses his UFC dream

New Zealand native Daniel Hooker (11-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) may be just one fight into his UFC career, but he knows exactly what he wants to do next – and he doesn’t want his weekend opponent joining for the ride. “Fighting, to me, is all about respect, and he just didn’t show any respect,” Hooker said following his UFC Fight Night 43 win over Ian Entwistle. “He was very disrespectful to my team, and that’s what this is all about, so he can jog on.” The pre-fight tension between the two featherweights didn’t register much outside of the two fighters’ local markets, but it certainly bothered “The Hangman.” He was able to extract revenge in the cage, as he survived an early and extended leg-lock attempt en route to scoring a first-round TKO. “It was all under control,” Hooker said

The UFC made its debut in New Zealand on Saturday with UFC Fight Night 43 at Auckland’s Vector Arena. Even though the event streamed on UFC Fight Pass in the middle of the night in North America, a few fighters still managed to get fans from around the globe talking about their memorable performances. Three fighters stood out from the rest of the pack at a highlight-filled event.

The lineup strength was a bit lacking for the UFC’s weekend debut in New Zealand, but like similar cards, the fighters delivered, and the end result was a number of solid fights. While Saturday’s four-fight main card, which streamed on UFC Fight Pass from Vector Arena in Auckland, had its ups and downs, the main event ended on a high as Nate Marquardt (33-13-2 MMA, 11-6 UFC) made a successful return to the middleweight division with a first-round submission victory over James Te Huna (16-8 MMA, 5-4 UFC), a former light heavyweight who made the drop to 185 pounds. It was arguably the most important victory of Marquardt’s career.

He’s won seven straight fights. He’s now 3-0 in the UFC. And in a division that has exactly zero top 10 fighters who are younger than 30, Jared Rosholt knows an opportunity slipped through his hands. The 27-year-old heavyweight, who took up MMA after becoming a three-time NCAA Division I All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State, hasn’t been winning with flash or flair in the cage. But still, he’s winning. Rosholt (11-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) didn’t spoil his biggest opportunity to date, and he earned a shutout unanimous-decision victory over Soa Palelei (21-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in today’s UFC Fight Night 43′s UFC Fight Pass-streamed headliner
