Mike King flunks UFC Fight Night 46 drug test, loses $50,000 bonus

Mike King ‘s failed drug test at UFC Fight Night 46 will be a costly one. UFC officials today announced that King (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) failed a drug test due to nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, following his submission loss to middleweight Cathal Pendred (14-2-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at the July 19 event, which took place at The Helix in Dublin. As a result, he’s been forced to surrender his $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus . Additionally, he’s been suspended nine months, retroactive to the event, and must pass another drug test before he can fight again. Conor McGregor’s UFC headliner is Irish channel’s highest-rated sporting event

Not only did Conor McGregor help UFC Fight Night 46 become the biggest event in UFC Fight Pass history, but he also gave 3e, the UFC’s new Irish broadcast partner, its biggest sporting broadcast in channel history. UFC Fight Night 46 took place this past Saturday, July 19, at The O2 in Dublin. Ireland’s McGregor (15-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) scored a first-round TKO victory over fellow featherweight Diego Brandao (18-10 MMA, 4-3 UFC) in the headliner. The event, which streamed on UFC Fight Pass in most of the world, aired on 3e in the host country. Back in June, the UFC announced announced the 3e partnership, which marked its first free-to-air broadcast agreement in Ireland. The channel, which is part of the TV3 network, aired the main card.

By now, you’ve no doubt heard about Conor McGregor ‘s impressive win over featherweight Diego Brandao in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 46 headliner. You’ve probably heard about the deafening crowd at The O2 in Dublin, the apparent record number of streams for the UFC Fight Pass digital network, and the UFC’s possible interest in bringing a massive soccer-stadium show back to the fight-crazed country. For a destination that hadn’t hosted a UFC event in five years – and just one overall before Saturday – Ireland delivered one of the best fight weekends in recent MMA history, especially among non-pay-per-view events. McGregor, the outspoken and brash 26-year-old who provided most of the promotional muscle in the lead-up to the event (check out video of the crowd’s post-fight celebration ), made some bold claims afterward.
