UFC middleweight Cung Le (9-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) today released a statement for the first time since the UFC rescinded his one-year suspension for an elevated level of human growth hormone in the wake of his UFC Fight Night 48 loss to Michael Bisping. In a statement released to MMAjunkie, Le said he is “extremely happy” with the promotion’s decision to reverse its punitive action toward him, but added that a statement released yesterday that announced the news fell short of the mark. “While I feel vindicated in this matter, the UFC’s press release does little in the way of an apology of which I believe I am rightly owed after unfairly enduring the public’s scrutiny,” Le wrote. Le did not say what his next step would be. In a previous interview with MMAjunkie, his manager, Garry Ibarra of the AMR Group, said retirement was a “possibility” but wasn’t able to say what the 42-year-old fighter would do. Included in Le’s statement today was a follow-up from Ibarra, who again called the UFC to task for the way it handled the case.

After questions raised by MMAjunkie about the testing procedures utilized at UFC Fight Night 48, UFC President Dana White today told ESPN.com that the promotion is linking up a third-party arbitrator to hear the appeal . “He has a certain time to file his intention to appeal,” UFC COO Lawrence Epstein added. “An arbitration panel would be set up, he’ll make his case, arbitration will make its decision and that will be the end of it.” Le’s manager, Gary Ibarra, told MMAjunkie his client will appeal the promotion’s finding that he had an elevated level of human growth hormone in his system following a fourth round TKO loss to Michael Bisping in their headliner at Macau’s Cotai Arena. Usually, appeals for positive drug tests are handled by an event’s overseeing athletic commission, but because UFC Fight Night 48 was regulated by the promotion in lieu of a formal regulator, the promotion will handle the job
