(This story first appeared in Tuesday’s USA TODAY .) The moment UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell set foot inside the cage in Connecticut earlier this month, he knew something was different. At first, he thought it was all in his head. He suddenly felt more comfortable in the UFC’s octagon, more at home. Perhaps, he told himself, he was finally getting used to his surroundings after nearly five years and six fights with the organization. “I noticed right when I stepped in,” says Rothwell (34-9 MMA, 4-3 UFC), who scored a first-round TKO victory over former Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem at “UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs. Mousasi” that night.

For some people, 15 seconds can make a big difference. That will be the case for Al Iaquinta – though he’ll just be a footnote as far as those 15 seconds are concerned. The new official stoppage time of Iaquinta’s win over Rodrigo Damm at UFC Fight Night 50 is 2:26 of Round 3 instead of the previously announced 2:41. Iaquinta (9-3-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) picked up a third-round TKO win over Damm (12-8 MMA, 3-3 UFC) on Sept. 5 at the event at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn. The official time of the finish listed on the scorecard was 2:41, and that’s the time UFC cage announcer Bruce Buffer read off on the FOX Sports 1-televised broadcast of the preliminary card

On Monday Mike Chiesa said he would’ve surrendered his $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus if officials would’ve allowed him to continue his recent UFC Fight Night 50 bout. Joe Lauzon , meanwhile, believes his opponent should “accept the loss like a man.” The two lightweights met this past week at UFC Fight Night 50.

After UFC Fight Night 50 KO win, Matt Mitrione not about to start calling out people

LEDYARD, Conn. – Perhaps the heavyweight division in the UFC should be on notice: If you call out Matt Mitrione , he’ll answer, and you might not like what winds up being the voice on the other end of the receiver. On Friday, that voice came in the form of a fairly vicious 41-second knockout of Derrick Lewis, who used his first-round knockout win over Guto Inocente at the TUF 19 Finale in July to call for a fight with Mitrione.
