Not only did he get it done, but he got it done in quick fashion – winning an extra $50,000 in the process. Holloway (13-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) is getting ready for his first UFC main event, which takes place on Aug. 23 at UFC Fight Night 74 against Charles Oliveira (20-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC). The fight takes place at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

While Sweden has become an annual destination for the UFC, the promotion’s most recent visit to the Scandinavian nation didn’t come without a little hurdle with the governing commission. Swedish MMA Federation officials hope to change that moving forward. “We assert that the SMMAF is very keen to welcome outside promotions to Sweden,” SMMAF President Johan Halldin told MMAjunkie. “We have for the most part had very good relations with both national and international promoters over the course of many years.

Sounds like Alexander Gustafsson is mad, bro. At the very least, he’s disappointed bro. Possibly even sad, bro. As the UFC light heavyweight contender apparently wrote on Mikz, which I didn’t even realize was a thing, he was none too pleased at the criticism from Swedish fight fans after the local fighters went a combined 2-4 at UFC Fight Night 53 in Stockholm on Saturday. As much as Gustafsson and the other Swedes love the support from their fans, he wrote, “we cannot become the worst fighters in the world after a loss when we the fight before were the best fighters in the world.” He then goes on, in the very next sentence, to refer to his teammates as “the world’s best MMA fighters.” So it’s possible that Swedish fight fans aren’t the only ones making the mistake of jumping to extremes.

Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 53 event proved to be a rough night for Swedish fighters, but the country’s most recognizable vet – Alexander Gustafsson – has come to their defense. Gustafsson, a top light heavyweight contender, headlined the UFC’s first Swedish event in 2012. So he followed Saturday’s event, which was the UFC’s third in the country, at Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe as many of his Allstars Training Center teammates fought.

There’s only a brief window of opportunity to make a lasting impression on fans, and some do it better than others. UFC Fight Night 53 took place Saturday and streamed on UFC Fight Pass from Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, and of the 22 competitors to compete on the UFC’s first event of the year in Sweden, three turned in performances that stood out from the rest.
