CABMMA denies appeal of UFC’s Piotr Hallman; Trevor Smith yet to apply

UFC lightweight Piotr Hallman ‘s suspension has been upheld after a second drug test confirmed the presence of the steroid drostanolone. The Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) confirmed with MMAjunkie that Hallmann (15-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) requested the commission test the “B” sample from his post-fight urine test at UFC Fight Night 51, where he lost a split decision loss to Gleison Tibau (30-10 MMA, 15-8 UFC) at the Sept. 13 event in Brasilia, Brazil. The UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory tested the sample and again found drostanolone, which prompted CABMMA to uphold a nine-month suspension issued to Hallman after his “A” sample came back positive.

‘Shogun’ Rua on fan reaction: Loss a ‘chance to throw all sorts of jokes, offensive words’

Mauricio Rua apparently doesn’t want to retire, and he even hinted at a potential move down to middleweight, but he said fan reaction to his recent losses can be a little rough. Rua (22-10 MMA, 6-8 UFC) suffered a 34-second loss to fellow light heavyweight Ovince Saint Preux (17-6 MMA, 5-1 UFC) in this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 56 headliner in Brazil. It was an ugly loss for the 32-year-old Brazilian legend (check out the Saint Preux vs. Rua video highlights ), who’s now 1-4 in his past five fights.

Although Ian McCall and John Lineker jousted following the cancellation of their recent bout, suspended UFC flyweight Ali Bagautinov has inserted himself into the conversation. Quick recap: Lineker (24-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and McCall (13-4-1 MMA, 2-2-1 UFC) were slated to co-headline this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 56 event in Brazil. However, after Lineker needed a second attempt to make weight and narrowly avoided missing weight for the fourth time in his UFC career, McCall ultimately was forced out of the event with a infection, and the bout was scrapped. Soon after the disappointing cancellation, Lineker spoke to MMAjunkie. The heartbreaking riddle of ‘Shogun’ Rua

If you’d told me on Saturday afternoon that Maurico Rua ’s main event bout with Ovince Saint Preux at UFC Fight Night 56 was going to make me sad, I probably wouldn’t have been the least bit surprised. If you’d told me that it would accomplish this feat in just 34 seconds , then yeah, I’d have been surprised. And right after I was through being surprised, I’d have gotten sad. You’d think we’d be used to this by now.

Just how bad was the judges’ decision in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 56 fight between welterweights Warlley Alves and Alan Jouban ? Pretty bad, according to nearly everyone but the officials who were cageside and judging the bout. In the night’s FOX Sports 1-televised co-headliner at Ginasio Municipal Tancredo Neves in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Alves (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) earned a unanimous-decision victory over Jouban (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC)
