Lorenz Larkin Lorenz Larkin came into UFC Fight Night 59 on the chopping block, a three-fight losing streak over the last year hanging over his head. By the end of the night, Larkin had become the new hot name in the welterweight division, with MMA fans and media playing matchmaker for his next bout on social media. Given the performance of Larkin (15-4 MMA, 2-4 UFC), it’s not hard to see why. In his first fight at welterweright, he put on a fantastic show.

Sean Spencer won’t leave potential Cathal Pendred rematch in hands of judges

Cathal Pendred and Sean Spencer When the third round came to a close at Sean Spencer ’s bout with Cathal Pendred at UFC Fight Night 59, there was a sense of dread expressed by fans and media members on social media. While it appeared Spencer had earned a clear victory, Pendred had the crowd behind him in a sport that has been witness to far too many cases of terrible judging. So, while disappointed, few seemed shocked when the judges not only awarded the fight to Pendred, but did so by a wide margin. Spencer (12-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) earned the victory in the eyes of all 16 media scorecards tracked by MMADecisions.com , most awarding him all three rounds. But, the judges saw it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 for Pendred (16-2-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC). Days after the loss, Spencer still can’t see any way that he lost the fight.

Cathal Pendred and Sean Spencer Despite a controversial decision loss to Cathal Pendred at this past Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 59, Sean Spencer will be getting his show and win money. The UFC welterweight today told MMAjunkie Radio that the promotion approved the pay bump on Tuesday, two days after judges unanimously ruled him the loser of a three-round fight he appeared to be dominating. “(UFC President) Dana (White) has been real supportive with this whole thing,” Spencer wrote via text message following his interview. A UFC official confirmed Spencer (12-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) was paid his full purse, which, according to disclosed payrolls , is $28,000. Pendred (16-2-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC), meanwhile, took home a disclosed $16,000. Two judges, Eric Colon and Doug Crosby, awarded Pendred all three rounds of the fight, giving him a 30-27 victory, while the third, David Ginsberg, issued a 29-28 score, awarding Pendred Rounds 2 and 3 and Spencer the opening frame

UFC Fight Night 59 headliner Conor McGregor It appears the UFC and FOX promotional push of Conor McGregor , and McGregor’s own hyping, paid off. According to FOX, Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 59 card was FOX Sports 1’s most-watched MMA event yet and the most-watched on cable since the UFC’s TUF 10 Finale in December 2009. UFC Fight Night 59 was headlined by McGregor (17-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) and his second-round TKO of Dennis Siver (22-10 MMA, 11-7 UFC), which earned him a featherweight title shot against champion Jose Aldo. The brash Irishman promised many things, from first-round finishes to record-breaking gates and TV numbers. The event took place at TD Garden in Boston, with a heavily Irish crowd in attendance to support Dublin native McGregor and two of his teammates, Cathal Pendred and Patrick Holohan, who picked up wins on the preliminary card.

In his second UFC headliner and in a fight that eventually earned him a title shot, UFC Fight Night 59’s Conor McGregor earned an event-high disclosed payday of $170,000, including an $85,000 win bonus. MMAjunkie today obtained the list of disclosed paydays from the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission. UFC Fight Night 59 took place this past Sunday, Jan. 18, at Boston’s TD Garden. The bulk of the card, including McGregor’s second-round win over fellow featherweight Dennis Siver (who earned $39,000), aired on FOX Sports 1 following a pair of UFC Fight Pass prelims.

Well, it certainly beats your average post-fight club party or the usual food binge after a grueling training camp. A couple days after scoring a quick win at Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 59 event, middleweight Uriah Hall posted the above photo (via Instagram ) with the one and only Jennifer Lopez. Yeah, props to “The Ultimate Fighter 17″ runner-up, who didn’t explain how the dinner with the actress/recording artist/TV host came about (though he also posted a photo with Ryan Guzman, who costars with Lopez in the upcoming film “The Boy Next Door,” so perhaps it was a promotional gig). Hall (10-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC), who lost his first two UFC bouts but has since rebounded with three straight victories, cruised against late replacement Ron Stallings (12-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC). In a FOX Sports 1-televised main-card bout at Boston’s TD Garden, he stopped Stallings in the first round due to a cut that led to a doctor’s stoppage.

When UFC President Dana White jumped in between the two fighters in an attempt to make sure the situation didn’t escalate, it gave MMA fans the impression that there was more to the situation than that, according to the light heavyweight. “As a professional courtesy, I told Ryan Jimmo for my first fight, we should do something funny. I told Gian Villante in New Zealand I wanted to do something funny,” O’Connell (16-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) said after his win at the event, which took place Sunday at TD Garden in Boston. “I told Matt Van Buren, ‘Hey, it’s kind of my thing: I like to goof around at the weigh-ins. I’m gonna do something funny.’ And he said, ‘Uhhh, uhhh, OK.’ I tried to make it an ad-libbity (tap on the nose), and everyone tries to make it a tense situation.

It took place Sunday at UFC Fight Night 59, where McGregor was victorious in the headliner and Holohan (11-1-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) cruised to a decision victory over fellow flyweight Shane Howell (13-9 MMA, 0-2 UFC) in preliminary-card action. Lamas, a featherweight contender who played the role of “The Delirious” Conrad McGillicutty in a parody video of McGregor prior to the event, was in Boston for the show, and he and Holohan eventually crossed paths.
