Jorge de Oliveira After initially announcing all the fighters at UFC Fight Night 62 had their drug tests come back clean, the Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) had to reverse course today. Jorge de Oliveira tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol, the CABMMA today announced. De Oliveira has been suspended for one year, retroactive to the March 21 event date in Brazil. UFC Fight Night 62 took place at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro. It aired on FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2 and UFC Fight Pass. The CABMMA, in a statement, said a communication error was to blame for its initial announcement that all the fighters’ tests came back clean

The Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) – the Brazilian MMA Commission – has announced that all its UFC Fight Night 62 drug tests have come back clean. MMAjunkie received a prepared statement from the UFC-backed commission stating all fighters were tested for performance-enhancers and drugs of abuse during this past month’s event. Additionally, six randomly chosen fighters were tested for erythropoietin (EPO). All tests were negative, though the athletes weren’t identified.

Leandro Silva and Drew Dober The MMA world felt that Drew Dober had been cheated out of an opportunity when the referee errantly stopped his fight with Leandro Silva at UFC Fight Night 62. The rules in place at athletic commissions rarely allow for a referee’s judgment call to be overturned after the fact, so most assumed Dober (15-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) would have a submission loss in the fight on his record for good, no matter how ridiculous the call was. In a shocking move, the athletic commission in Brazil decided to overturn the result of the fight , ruling it a no-contest and providing some sense of fairness in a sport in which it feels there so often is none. “I am satisfied that the loss is taken off the record,” Dober told MMAjunkie Radio.

Although initially announcing the controversial UFC Fight Night 62 result would stand , the Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) – the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission – today reversed course and overturned Silva’s win and declared the fight a no-contest. In a statement emailed to MMAjunkie, CABMMA COO Cristiano Sampaio confirmed the change to the March 23 bout. Leandro Silva and Drew Dober During the UFC Fight Night 62 preliminary-card fight, which aired on FOX Sports 2 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian lightweight Leandro Silva (17-2-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) was awarded a second-round submission victory over fellow lightweight Dober (15-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC). However, Dober never tapped during the confusing final sequence, and he had already escaped any real danger from a guillotine choke as he changed his positioning (watch it above)

There was no evident reason to stop the fight , no reason at all for Herdy to be doing what he was doing, and yet once he started doing it, he couldn’t stop. Not without courting a different brand of controversy. Not in MMA. Herdy made a mistake. That much seems obvious.

A representative from the Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) – the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission – today told MMAjunkie the controversial result will stand. “There is no action CABMMA can take at this time, and the result will be maintained,” Cristiano Sampaio, the regulatory body’s chief operating officer, wrote in a prepared statement sent to MMAjunkie. During Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 62 preliminary card, which aired on FOX Sports 2 from Brazil prior to the FOX Sports 1 main card, Brazilian fighter Leandro Silva (18-2-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) was awarded a second-round submission victory over fellow lightweight Dober (15-7 MMA, 1-3 UFC)
