CABMMA: UFC fighter Rony Jason’s ‘B’ test also positive for banned diuretic

Rony Jason ’s hopes that a retest would overturn his failed drug test have been squashed. Jason (14-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide, a banned diuretic, following his May 30 win at UFC Fight Night 67. The Brazilian earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus after scoring a submission victory over featherweight Damon Jackson (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC). However, following the event, the Brazilian Athletic Commission MMA (CABMMA), which oversaw the event, announced the failed test . The regulatory body suspended Jason for nine months, and his win over Jackson was flipped to a no-contest. Today, CABMMA announced the “B” sample also tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide: First, it is important to state that CABMMA is an independent entity dedicated to the development and regulation of MMA in Brazil.

Rony Jason Rony Jason’s failed UFC Fight Night 67 drug test cost him a win and $50,000 in bonus money from the UFC and the featherweight winner of the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” doesn’t plan to take it lying down. Jason (14-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) failed his test for hydrochlorothiazide , a banned diuretic, following his “Performance of the Night” winning submission of Damon Jackson (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC). The victory was overturned and it was announced that the UFC had rescinded his bonus and would not pass it along to another fighter from the vent. The fighter spoke to MMAjunkie and made it lear that he feels he did nothing wrong and already has his legal team on the case. “It was a surprise,” Jason told MMAjunkie

Rony Jason Rony Jason ’s failed UFC Fight Night 67 post-fight drug test has cost him more than a victory and nine months of his career. It’s also taken $50,000 out of his bank account. Following news that Jason (14-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) tested positive for the banned diuretic hydrochlorothiazide following his first-round submission of Damon Jackson (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) on May 30, UFC officials have rescinded the fighter’s $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award. The award will not be reissued to a different fighter on the card, a senior UFC official told MMAjunkie. There has been a precedent in the past for another fighter on the card to receive a bonus should one of the original winners fail a drug test. At UFC 159 in April 2013, Pat Healy tested positive for marijuana following his victory over Jim Miller.

Jason (14-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) tested positive hydrochlorothiazide, a banned diuretic, following his UFC Fight Night 67 “Performance of the Night” bonus-winning submission of Damon Jackson (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC). As a result, the featherweight has been suspended for nine months, and his win over Jackson has been flipped to a no-contest. In addition, though the UFC has not made a formal statement about Jason’s positive test, his $50,000 bonus is sure to be rescinded, per the promotion’s policy that fighters must pass post-fight drug tests to remain eligible for an event’s post-fight performance bonuses

Mirsad Bektic took it to Lucas Martins this past Saturday, and did so in a big way. There’s no getting around that. Bektic (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) swarmed Martins (15-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) early in their fight at UFC Fight Night 67, and ultimately got a second-round stoppage , leaving the Brazilian bruised and battered with a big gash above his left eye. But there’s a backstory to that gash, according to Martins. It was there before the fight – and healed up just enough to for the commission in Brazil to not notice it. Martins told MMAjunkie he suffered a cut in training that required eight stitches
