The mistake cost him when he stopped standing and trading with Rothwell and shot on him. Rothwell stuffed the takedown attempt and quickly latched on his “gogo” choke. Mitrione was tapping furiously mere seconds later. Ben Rothwell and Matt Mitrione That choke proved to be no fluke. In January, Rothwell slapped it on Josh Barnett and got a second-round submission, giving him four straight wins and four straight finishes with a pair of bonuses.

Filed under: News , UFC , Videos While Dustin Poirier had an impressive 11-fight run in the UFC’s featherweight division, his performances since moving back up to 155 pounds make you wonder why he ever bothered cutting down. This past June, Poirier returned him to his native Louisiana, where he absolutely destroyed an always tough Yancy Medeiros in the first round of their UFC Fight Night 68 matchup. Poirier (18-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) is 2-0 since returning to lightweight, and he picked up the “Performance of the Night” bonuses in both wins. Later this month, he faces Joseph Duffy (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 76, which takes place Oct. 24 at 3Arena in Dublin.

Shawn Jordan The unpredictable nature of the UFC heavyweight division makes it difficult to put together a lengthy winning streak. Shawn Jordan has won three in a row, so he wants to be rewarded for it. Jordan (18-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) has emerged on top in his past three octagon appearances. He scored knockouts over Derrick Lewis, Jared Cannonier and Jack May for his longest winning streak since 2009. Jordan said his body of work should earn a big-name fight. “I want to fight a top-10 guy, any of them – out of respect, not because I want to talk trash about a guy,” Jordan recently told MMAjunkie Radio.

Matt Mitrione Just days after his first-round submission loss to Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night 68, heavyweight Matt Mitrione is already looking to get back in the octagon. Mitrione (9-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) expressed disgust with his performance against Rothwell, which snapped a three-fight winning streak, and he wants to wash the bitter taste out of his mouth right away. He’d like the opportunity to do that against Travis Browne (17-3-1 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC). “Meathead” took to his official Twitter account to request the matchup between what he described as two “elite strikers” in the UFC heavyweight division.
