And when it comes to Joseph Duffy’s last-minute withdrawal from UFC Fight Night 76 against Brooks’ friend and teammate Dustin Poirier , he has plenty of opinion to give. Brooks helped Poirier prepare at American Top Team for what was supposed to be a headlining lightweight contest in Dublin earlier this month. Everything went swimmingly until news broke three days before the fight that Duffy (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) had suffered a head injury on his final day of training and was deemed medically unfit to compete

Otherwise, the concussed fighter likely would have gone ahead with his UFC Fight Night 76 headliner. Duffy (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), speaking in his first interview since he was forced out of a headliner with fellow lightweight Dustin Poirier (18-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) at this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 76 event, told SunSport he planned to fight on despite getting knocked down during a training session a week before the event. The Irishman, who didn’t want to disappoint fans at Dublin’s 3Arena (and the many more watching via UFC Fight Pass), was “sparring with the lads” at Montreal’s Tristar Gym. In one of his final rounds of prep in the 10-week camp, he got knocked down by an unidentified teammate

Dustin Poirier UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier can fight, but he’s also an impressive multitasker, as well. On today’s episode of MMAjunkie Radio, Poirier (18-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) defended his decision to pass on a short-notice headliner against Norman Parke (21-4-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) while trading tweets with the Irish fighter. After Joseph Duffy (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) scratched from this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 76 main event due to a pre-bout concussion , Parke was offered a chance to step in as the headliner – if Poirier agreed. But Poirier did not, believing the bout could be rescheduled and, he said, getting the UFC’s blessing. Two days after the event, he isn’t one bit regretful about his choice.
