Bellator’s Matt Mitrione calls Travis Browne appeal ‘a sham’

Travis Browne and Matt Mitrione Bellator heavyweight Matt Mitrione said he’ll shop his case to attorneys after a failed attempt to overturn his TKO loss against Travis Browne. Mitrione called the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission’s handling of the matter “a sham” and told MMAjunkie he is “down for those conversations” after threatening to take the matter to state court. “I’m sure there’s some hungry lawyer that wants to take it further and go after some money,” he said during a conference call in support of his Bellator debut at Bellator 157 on Friday. “I know my case is strong and I know my position on valid.” Mitrione maintains the UFC Fight Night 81 bout’s referee failed to declare the fight a no-contest after Browne fouled him on multiple occasions. He also claims the referee, Gary Forman, had a conflict of interest that precluded him from working with the MSAC.

Matt Mittrione appeals TKO loss to Travis Browne, accuses ref of conflict of interest

UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione isn’t about to let his loss to Travis Browne stand. The UFC heavyweight is appealing a TKO loss to Browne at January’s UFC Fight Night 81 at Boston’s TD Garden. Mitrione claims the fight’s referee, Gary Forman, failed to properly officiate the bout and should have stopped it in the second round after multiple eye-gouges. Mitrione, who is recovering from a recent eye surgery following an orbital blowout sustained in the fight, also claims Forman should have been disqualified from the job in the first place, alleging the referee didn’t have the experience to fulfill his duties and had a conflict of interest as a former promoter

UFC Fight Night 81 salaries: Browne ($120K), Cruz ($110K) earn top payouts

Co-main-event winner Travis Browne and main-event victor Dominick Cruz earned the largest disclosed paydays at this past month’s UFC Fight Night 81 event. MMAjunkie today obtained the list of disclosed fight purses from the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission after filing a public-records request shortly after the event.

UFC light heavyweight Abdul-Kerim Edilov fails USADA test before making octagon debut

UFC officials today announced that light heavyweight signee Abdul-Kerim Edilov (16-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been notified of a potential anti-doping policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition test. As is traditional with such announcements, the UFC declined further comment and stated only that the United States Anti-Doping Agency, who administers the UFC’s drug testing program, will handle the situation moving forward. “USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case,” the statement read. “It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.” Edilov was expected to make his UFC debut at this past month’s UFC Fight Night 81 event
