Lucas Martins on post-victory UFC release: ‘To tell you the truth, I didn’t understand’

Lucas Martins still isn’t sure why he’s no longer fighting for the UFC, but regardless of the reason, he stills plans to work his way to the octagon following a baffling post-victory pink slip. This past month at UFC Fight Night 86, Martins (16-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) picked up a split-decision win over fellow featherweight Robert Whiteford (12-4 MMA, 2-3 UFC). The April 10 victory moved 27-year-old Martins to a respectable 4-3 in the UFC, where his losses have come to no slouches (Edson Barboza, Darren Elkins and Mirsad Bektic). Additionally, despite the judges being split, every major media outlet scored the UFC Fight Night 86 bout for Martins, according to MMADecisions.com . Yet, a few weeks after the victory, the UFC released him. “To tell you the truth, I didn’t understand what took place,” Martins told MMAjunkie

Dos Santos (18-4 MMA, 12-3 UFC) shut Rothwell (36-10 MMA, 6-4 UFC) out in the main event of UFC Fight Night 86, which took place in Zagreb, Croatia, and aired on FOX Sports 1. And after the fight, Dos Santos, a former UFC heavyweight champion, said he would like to stay ready , just in case an injury were to befall heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum (20-5-1 MMA, 8-2 UFC) or challenger Stipe Miocic (14-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC), who meet in the UFC 198 main event on May 14

Filed under: Featured Videos , News , UFC , Videos Zak Cummings said he has held back by some “stupid injuries” in recent years, but he’s ready to make the necessary adjustments to keep things rolling after earning a decision win over Nicolas Dalby at UFC Fight Night 86. The bout took place Sunday during the prelims at Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia. Like the main card, it aired on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. “I feel great after the fight,” Cummings told MMAjunkie following his victory. “I feel everything is good right now, I’ve had some stupid injuries lately, so I really feel like this is a new beginning for me to come back and stay injury free, keep my weight down and kind of take care of the weight cuts. I had a really bad weight cut (on Friday), and I felt it toward the end of fight, so I really want to keep my weight down and stay injury free.” Cummings (19-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC) wasn’t able to get the finish against Dalby (14-1-1 MMA, 1-1-1 UFC) and instead picked up only his fifth decision in 19 victories
