Diego Ferreira accepts 17-month suspension from USADA following April failed drug test

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) today announced Diego Ferreira has accepted a 17-month suspension for an anti-doping policy violation. Ferreira (12-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) was set to face Abel Trujillo (14-6 MMA, 5-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 88 on May 29 in Las Vegas. After being tested out-of-competition by UFC anti-doping partner USADA, his test came back positive for Ostarine, a selective androgen receptor modulator with steroid-like properties. That positive test was in addition to Ferreira self-reporting use of a supplement that contained another banned substance, 7-keto-DHEA

Think about this for a minute: Starting July 7 with UFC Fight Night 90, and ending with UFC 204 on Oct. 8, a stretch of 93 days, the UFC put on 15 shows. That’s one event every six days or so.

UFC lightweight Diego Ferreira today was suspended 12 months for a failed pre-fight test in connection with a scheduled bout at UFC Fight Night 88. Ferreira (12-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) was set to face Abel Trujillo (14-6 MMA, 5-2 UFC) at the May 29 event, but came back positive for Ostarine, a selective androgen receptor modulator with steroid-like properties, after being tested out-of-competition by UFC anti-doping partner USADA. Trujillo went on to face newcomer Jordan Rinaldo and won via decision at the event, which took place at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Ferreira’s case with the third-party firm is still pending, but the NSAC moved forward with the fighter after temporarily suspending him and delaying a hearing on the matter . During a hearing today in Las Vegas, Ferreira appeared without representation and struggled to keep up with the commission’s questions about his positive test and his responsibilities under the UFC’s anti-doping program

Filed under: Featured Videos , News , UFC , Videos After a fun-to-watch scrap against Jorge Masvidal at Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 88 event, a a split-decision victory sent Lorenz Larkin back on the winning path, and he’s now 3-1 since descending to the welterweight division. The win sparked praise for Larkin’s (17-5 MMA, 4-5 UFC) usual speed on the feet, as well as for his perhaps lesser-known wrestling and jiu-jitsu chops. But there were also questions regarding a less glamorous moment, when an eye-poke sent Masdival (29-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC) to his knees in the first round. It was an accident that stemmed from one his opponent’s attacks, Larkin explained, but he’s been since making sure everyone – Masvidal included – knows just how sorry he is. “He kicked my leg out,” Larkin said on MMAjunkie Radio. “He was coming in, and I just went like this, thinking ‘Maybe if I can get a hand on him.’ But unfortunately I got him in the eye.

It was no more evident than when his girlfriend beat him in an arm-wrestling match. Story (19-8 MMA, 12-6 UFC), who returned from a 20-month layoff to beat former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine (16-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) at Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 88 event, overcame neck injuries and surgery to get to the FOX Sports 1-televised event. Story posted a convincing unanimous-decision victory at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, and he’s now riding a three-fight winning streak. More importantly, though, the 2006 NAIA national wrestling runner-up is feeling healthy. However, that wasn’t always the case
