Filed under: News , UFC UFC President Dana White said he thought the CABMMA should “bury” Roy Nelson after the heavyweight kicked referee John McCarthy following his win at UFC Fight Night 95. The Brazilian commission, however, decided on a far smaller punishment. Following his second-round knockout of Antonio Silva (19-10-1 MMA, 3-7-1 UFC) at the event at Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in Brasilia, Brazil, Nelson (21-13 MMA, 9-9 UFC) approached “Big” John from behind and gave him a light kick to the butt followed by the middle finger and a verbal lashing. Nelson believed McCarthy stopped the fight late, forcing him to land what he felt like were unnecessary additional blows on “Bigfoot,” a fighter Nelson has trained with in the past and considers a good friend. A judge with the Brazilian sports court subsequently suspended Nelson (21-13 MMA, 9-9 UFC) nine months and fined him approximately $23,400 for contacting McCarthy following a knockout win over Antonio Silva (19-10-1 MMA, 3-7-1 UFC) at the FS1-televised event on Sept. 26 in Brasilia.

BRASILIA, Brazil – Slowly but surely, Michel Prazeres is racking up wins in the UFC’s lightweight division. With the decision call over Gilbert Burns (11-2 MMA, 4-2) at this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 95, Prazeres (20-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) is now on a three-fight streak, having won five out of his six last bouts. However, in spite of only having two career losses – including one in the welterweight division, in his UFC debut – “Trator” (Portuguese for tractor) still isn’t satisfied with what he’s shown. After an all-decisions record in the octagon, he is still missing a finish. “I expected a knockout,” Prazeres said.

On Saturday, Lina Lansberg became the latest casualty on Cristiane Justino ’s path of destruction. While she did last longer than a lot of the previous competition, returning after a one-sided beating in the first round of their UFC Fight Night 95 headlining 140-pound scrap, Lansberg (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) was still easy prey to Justino’s (17-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) relentless aggression before a stoppage was called at the 2:29 mark of the second frame. Though battered and bruised, Lansberg kept her post-fight composure, praising ‘Cyborg’ in an octagon interview and later showing up at the post-fight press conference. And today, less than three days after the scrap, Lansberg showed on an Instagram post that she is still not about to make excuses. Next to a picture of herself getting tagged by one of Justino’s powerful shots, Lansberg said that, though previously aware of her opponent’s “weight and skill level,” she had never felt punches with such “insane power” in any of her 85 muay Thai bouts, nor her previous seven MMA appearances. Still, Lansberg said she would like another stab at the “phenomenal” Invicta FC featherweight champ in the future.

Following UFC Fight Night 95 in Brazil, there wasn’t a ton of movement in this week’s USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA rankings. However, there was one very important question to ask: Is Cristiane Justino the best female fighter on the planet. Justino (17-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) picked up a second-round TKO win over Lina Lansberg (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 95, marking the 17th consecutive win for “Cyborg,” as well as her 15th career win by knockout. However, MMAjunkie elected to leave UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczk (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) in the top slot. The Polish champion boasts a pair of UFC wins over the No. 2-ranked fighter in Claudia Gadelha, as well as wins over current No
