Matt Grice vs. Jeremy Larsen at featherweight added to UFC 166

Matt Grice (15-5 MMA, 2-6 UFC) and Jeremy Larsen (8-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) are the latest additions to this fall’s UFC 166 event. UFC officials on Wednesday night announced the bout, which sees Larsen drop to 145 pounds for the first time. It’s not yet known whether the contest will serve on the event’s pay-per-view main card or preliminary cards, which air on FOX Sports 1 and stream on Facebook. UFC 166 takes place Oct. 19 at Houston’s Toyota Center. Larsen is in dire need of a win inside the octagon following back-to-back losses in a pair of UFC fights. On the regional scene, he went 8-2 in a five-year span before appearing on “The Ultimate Fighter 15.” Grice, meanwhile, also is looking to rebound after a valiant effort against Dennis Bermudez at UFC 157, which resulted in a split-decision loss and well-deserved “Fight of the Night” bonus. When former Tachi Palace Fights flyweight champion Ian McCall inked a deal with the UFC in late 2011, he had high expectations. He entered the 2012 UFC Flyweight Tournament to determine the inaugural UFC 125-pound champion. He faced Demetrious Johnson in the opening round and the two fought to a draw. Johnson was originally declared the winner, but after a scoring error correction, the fight was ruled a draw. Johnson defeated McCall by unanimous decision in a rematch. In his next outing, McCall faced Joseph Benavidez and lost via unanimous decision. He’s gone 0-2-1 in his three UFC fights, and was not in a good place mentally. His personal life was coming unraveled as well as his career. The 29-year-old fighter made changes in his life, eliminated some relationships, distanced himself from others, and is ready to move forward inside and outside of the cage. “I’m in a much better place. You know, I’ve kind of blown my UFC career so far, but now it’s time to earn what’s rightfully mine,” McCall told MMAWeekly.com content partner Knockout Radio . “I’ve always been physically ready. Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will compete in a non-title fight for the first time since 2009 when he faces Charles Oliveira on the UFC 162 main card on Saturday. He believes fighting a three-rounder instead of five rounds could force a welcome change his approach. “It’s a blessing in disguise, I feel like, coming back to a three-round fight. It’s going to make me get out of the gun early and make sure, first round, I’m in his face and I’m in the rhythm that I like to be in fourth and fifth (round),” Edgar told UFC.com . At this point in his career, there’s probably no reason for Cub Swanson to mince words. Swanson (19-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC) fights Dennis Siver (21-8 MMA, 10-5 UFC) next week at UFC 162, which takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It’s a fight Swanson is fine with. Sort of. Considering the musical chairs that have been going on in the UFC’s featherweight division of late, Swanson thought if there was any flip-flopping that went on, he might be the recipient of a fight that would get him closer to a title shot – or into the next title fight itself. Swanson recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) the Siver fight was what was offered, and rather than sit back with no other options, he took it – with a caveat he was hoping the UFC would be down with. But when Anthony Pettis pulled out of his featherweight title fight with champ Jose Aldo at UFC 163, the UFC broke up the Ricardo Lamas – Chan Sung Jung fight at UFC 162 and put “The Korean Zombie” into the fight with Aldo, leaving Lamas without an opponent. UFC 161 winner Mitch Clarke credits John Crouch, training camp at The MMA Lab

Mitch Clarke had his back against the wall a week ago, and he knew it. The Canadian had two straight losses, and they happened to come in his only two UFC fights. Going 0-2 in the UFC these days usually gets you a pink slip. Going 0-3 is pretty much a certainty. So that had Clarke (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) plenty motivated for his UFC 161 fight in Winnipeg a week ago against John Maguire (18-6 MMA, 2-3 UFC)
