Dan Hardy has opened up about some of the situations that disappointed him while working for the UFC as a commentator. The former welterweight title challenger and ex-UFC analyst had conflicted feelings during his final days as an employee for the Las Vegas-based MMA promotion. Hardy was released from his duties as commentator in early 2021 following a reported disagreement with a female employee during the promotion’s run of events in Abu Dhabi that same year. In a recent interview with Freedom Pact , Hardy said he “certainly could’ve acted differently” in dealing with the circumstance, but it doesn’t change the uneasy feelings he had toward some situations with the promotion. In one of the examples the Hardy listed, he claimed the UFC and president Dana White staged a video in which White was shown on camera acting concerned for Calvin Kattar’s health after his loss against Max Holloway at UFC on ABC 1 in January 2021.

A bloodied-up Kattar never stopped pressing forward, but many questioned why his corner didn’t throw in the towel. The way the fight unfolded even had UFC president Dana White fearing for Kattar’s life . Coach Tyson Chartier does not want Calvin Kattar to rush his return to the octagon. Kattar (22-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) is coming off a lopsided unanimous decision loss to former feather UFC champion Max Holloway this past January, where he showed incredible heart and durability but was ultimately overwhelmed for five rounds. Holloway put an incredible pace on Kattar, who did not stop firing back despite absorbing the most significant strikes of anyone in a single bout in UFC history. Two months later, Chartier gave a positive update on Kattar’s health, but he insists that he doesn’t want to see him return until he’s taken a lengthy time away

Matt Brown indicated prior to his UFC on ABC 1 fight with Carlos Condit that retirement could be on the horizon , win or lose. Brown (22-18 MMA, 15-12 UFC) left the octagon with the latter result after dropping a competitive unanimous decision to Condit (32-13 MMA, 9-9 UFC) in their Jan. 16 co-main event matchup at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. At 40, and with a welterweight record 27 UFC appearances to his credit, it wouldn’t be a stunner if Brown decided he was done. He’s already hung up his gloves once but said he currently has no intentions to do it again. The outcome of the Condit fight has led Brown to think he has a lot more to offer

UFC middleweight Alessio Di Chirico thinks his performance last time out likely saved his job. “That was incredible – better than my best dreams,” Di Chirico recently told MMA Junkie via translator, after he explained why he declined questions at his post-fight news conference at UFC on ABC 1 earlier this month. Di Chirico was a big underdog against viral sensation Joaquin Buckley. But when it came time to actually compete, Di Chirico proved the oddsmakers wrong. The Italian fighter flipped the script and knocked out Buckley with a head kick in Round 1. “I think the high kick landed because of the previous leg kicks,” Di Chirico said.

Holloway (22-6 MMA, 18-6 UFC) said both before and after his all-time performance against Calvin Kattar at UFC on ABC 1 this past weekend that he was highly interested in running it back with “The Notorious.” His record output in the fight caught McGregor’s (22-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC) attention, and the former two-division champ expressed interest in the bout. “I thought it was a solid performance,” McGregor told The Mac Life . “He fought an up-and-comer, he done well. I was actually doing an interview and he skateboarded by the window.
