Juan Espino is not happy with the way things turned out for his first fight in 2021. The winner of Season 28 of “The Ultimate Fighter” lost to Alexandr Romanov earlier this month at UFC on ESPN 22 in Las Vegas. The bout was stopped midway through Round 3 after Romanov (14-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) suffered an illegal strike to the groin and was unable to continue fighting. It was a controversial result since many didn’t think the low blow would disable Romanov to continue fighting. And even then, many thought Espino (10-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) had done enough to that point to win a decision. “El Guapo” said he is upset with his opponent and the officials.

UFC to pay Drakkar Klose show money, promotional compliance after Jeremy Stephens cancellation

On Tuesday, MMA Junkie obtained the full list of medical suspensions from MixedMartialArts.com for UFC on ESPN 22, which took place this past Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Fighters can return to action sooner than their suspensions indicate should they receive medical clearance from a doctor. After getting stopped in just 18 seconds by Phil Hawes in his promotional debut at UFC 254, Malkoun (5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) faced another knockout artist in Abdul Razak Alhassan at UFC on ESPN 22 this past Saturday. In what likely was a must-win situation, Malkoun prevailed with a dominant win over Alhassan, stifling the power puncher with his grappling. Malkoun is one of former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker’s main training partners, so it was a matter of leveling up on the big stage and that’s exactly what he was able to do. “He’s got a decent name, he’s beaten a few guys in the UFC, knocked out a few people – but there was never a question about my skill set,” Malkoun told MMA Junkie and other reporters following UFC on ESPN 22.
