The men’s bantamweight division saw the biggest move following the main event of UFC on ESPN 35 . Entering the week unranked at bantamweight, Marlon “Chito” Vera left quite the impression at Saturday’s event against Rob Font at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Vera took everything Font could offer throughout the fight, but remained strong and hurt his opponent on multiple occasions over the course of 25 minutes.

Matt Brown: Tying UFC knockout record is great, but ‘I still got big things to do’

At 40 years old, Matt Brown has no intentions of slowing down. Brown (23-18 MMA, 16-12 UFC) tied the UFC record for most knockouts in company history (12) when he flattened Dhiego Lima in the first round this past Saturday at UFC on ESPN 25. Brown joined Vitor Belfort and Derrick Lewis atop the list, but he isn’t fully satisfied just yet. “I appreciate it and, yeah, those are some great company to be around there spoken with the same names as those guys,” Brown told MMA Junkie Radio.

This past Saturday at UFC on ESPN 25, Nicolae Negumereanu was warned multiple times by referee Mike Beltran – quite sternly, we might add – about grabbing the cage in his light heavyweight bout with Aleksa Camur, but ultimately no points were deducted. The result? Negumereanu salvaged a split decision victory thanks to the multiple no-calls. Had a point been taken, the final result would have been a draw – and Negumereanu wouldn’t have earned the second half of his paycheck for winning. Now, nobody likes draws, and nobody wants to have money taken from fighters, but rules are rules

Chan Sung Jung returned to the win column in a big way this past weekend at UFC on ESPN 25, with an impressive showing that earned him a unanimous decision against Dan Ige. “The Korean Zombie” now has won three of his past four fights dating back to June 2019, with the defeat against upcoming featherweight title challenger Brian Ortega , who will meet champion Alexander Volkanovski later this year after their season of “The Ultimate Fighter” airs. Jung said he’s willing to step in on short notice if either Ortega or Volkanovski are forced to withdraw, but a popular suggestion for his next fight is former champ Max Holloway. So what should it be? Does “The Korean Zombie” deserve a title shot , or does he need another win – and if so, against whom?

Kanako Murata provided an update after injuring her arm at UFC on ESPN 25. Murata (12-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) suffered a dislocated left elbow against Virna Jandiroba this past Saturday and showed incredible resolve by trying to fight it out until doctors decided to stop the contest at the end of Round 2. Jandiroba secured a deep armbar in Round 1, and Murata injured her arm when trying to pull out of the submission. The 27-year-old former Invicta FC and Rizin fighter took to Instagram Sunday night to post an image of her X-ray, thanking the UFC for taking care of her injury. “Thank you for your generous support @ufc I will be stronger and come back.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kanako Murata (@m_r_t_k_n_k) The TKO loss snapped Murata’s eight-fight winning streak.
