Leon Edwards looked to extend his incredible winning streak when he faced a former champion. In just his second time competing in the U.S., Edwards took on former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of UFC on ESPN 4, which took place in July 2019. Edwards was able to take dos Anjos down to the mat early, controlling him for the majority of the opening round. The Brazilian was landing effective low kicks, while Edwards stayed long, throwing sniping elbows that eventually cut dos Anjos. The two continued to trade as Edwards was starting to really mark up dos Anjos with crisp combinations.

With his latest victory, Leon Edwards is finally starting to get some of the respect he believes he’s long deserved. Edwards (18-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) was magnificent in a decision win over former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at this past weekend’s UFC on ESPN 4 in San Antonio, and he ascends to No. 10 in the latest edition of the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie MMA welterweight rankings, marking the highest position he’s ever enjoyed. For “Rocky,” it’s a start, but he has his eyes on the top of the division, hoping for either a clash with Jorge Masvidal, who currently sits at No. 4, or a rematch with current champ Kamaru Usman, who is the last man to beat Edwards after handing him a decision loss in December 2015

Longtime UFC lightweight James Vick is the latest fighter to move out of the 155-pound division. Wednesday, Vick announced his move to welterweight in a lengthy Facebook post, noting his weight cuts have “really sucked these past few (years)” while denying they played a part in his current three-fight skid. “I don’t feel this way because of losing but in my opinion it’s the opposite I’ve been losing because I feel like this,” he wrote four days after a knockout loss to Dan Hooker at UFC on ESPN 4. At 6-foot-3, Vick (13-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) has faced questions about his weight in the past. But he said a recent personal revelation affected his training more than anything physical.

For Andrei Arlovski , it feels like 40 is the new 30 as the former UFC heavyweight champion got back in the win column, and he’s not done yet. In fact, Arlovski (28-18-2 MMA, 17-12-1 UFC) feels like he has several years ahead of him, and his back-and-forth battle with Ben Rothwell, which resulted in a unanimous-decision unanimous-decision win , proved that “The Pitbull” still has gas in the tank. “I’m a lucky person, first of all. I have great coaches, I have a great team, a great facility and gym, American Top Team, where there’s a lot of heavyweights,” Arlovski told MMA Junkie Radio on Monday. “The most important thing for me, my wife, to get to do what I do, my passion, it’s my life. She supports me, she takes care of me and like I said, God willing, I want to fight until four, five years, maybe a little bit more.

SAN ANTONIO – After a disappointing UFC debut, Mario Bautista earned his first UFC win with a “Fight of the Night” performance. And he got to do it with a full training camp before a unanimous-decision win over Jin Soo Son at UFC on ESPN 4. “I felt that it was good,” Bautista said Saturday night at AT&T Center. “I got to show a lot of my skillset because Jin Son, he’s pretty tough. He’s pretty hard to take out, so I feel pretty good about it.” Bautista knew he was in for a tough battle as he went toe to toe with Son, exchanging on the feet, in the clinch and working his way up from multiple takedowns
