The muay Thai specialist found an impressive way to make her name known (even if the pronunciation still isn’t, exactly). Jedrzejczyk’s slick striking and impressive takedown defense was on full display at UFC on FOX 12, where she simply picked apart a tough Juliana Lima en route to picking up a decision win. After repeating the performance against Claudia Gadelha, Jedrzejczyk (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) now fights for the UFC women’s strawweight title against current champion Carla Esparza (10-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in the co-main event of this weekend’s UFC 185 event, which takes place at Dallas’ American Airlines Center. Ahead of that pay-per-view event, watch Jedrzejczyk’s UFC debut in the video above. As usual, MMAjunkie will be onsite in Dallas for UFC 185 .

UFC’s Brian Ortega apologizes for failed drug test, says coaches ‘unaware’

Brian Ortega has apologized for a failed drug test that cost him his UFC-debut win at July’s UFC on FOX 12 event. Ortega (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who scored a first-round rear-naked-choke win over featherweight Mike De La Torre (12-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at the July 26 event in San Jose, had the win overturned after he tested positive for the steroid drostanolone . The California Athletic Commission also suspended Ortega nine months and fined him $2,500. He can appeal, but according to the UFC, he’ll need to pass another drug test before he can compete again for the promotion. Ortega issued the following statement (via Instagram ), which he addressed to “my Coaches, Family, Friends, Fans and the UFC.” He said his coaches were “totally unaware” of his drug usage: Ortega is linked to the same gym, Blackhouse MMA, as another fighter who recently was flagged for drostanolone. “The Ultimate Fighter 17” veteran Kevin Casey failed a test due to the drug following his first-round knockout of Robert “Bubba” Bush at UFC 175

Today, the head of a gym known for housing UFC stars such as Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida denied the facility has a problem with performance-enhancing drugs. Ed Soares, who runs Black House MMA in Gardena, Calif., told MMAjunkie a pair of positive tests from gym regulars is an isolated incident and also took issue with MMA observers who implied a link between their formal promotional homes and the failures. “It’s not fair, because let’s put how many other people were from that situation that fought clean,” he said. “It’s not what it looks like.” Middleweight Kevin Casey and featherweight Brian Ortega both tested positive for the steroid drostanolone following bouts at UFC 175 and UFC on FOX 12, respectively .

UFC featherweight Brian Ortega tested positive for the steroid drostanolone following a first-round submission victory over Mike De La Torre at UFC on FOX 12, according to the California State Athletic Commission. CSAC Executive Director Andy Foster confirmed the result to MMAjunkie following a public records request for drug test results. All remaining competitors at the July 26 event at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., came back negative for drugs of abuse and performance-enhancers. The commission conducted urine tests of all fighters after their respective bouts, Foster said. Ortega (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been suspended nine months and fined $2500

The 32-year-old light heavyweight had returned to action after almost two full years away in order to face Patrick Cummins at UFC on FOX 12 in his hometown of San Jose, and the result was one of those fights where the nicest thing you can say about Kingsbury (11-6 MMA, 4-5 UFC) is that he managed to endure the beating for three full rounds. He got taken down over and over again. He got mauled by punches and elbows. Several times he seemed right on the brink of being stopped, only to somehow limp onward in the service of an increasingly hopeless cause.
