Paul Redmond Prior to a rash of high-profile drug-testing failues, there was a time – one that now seems so much more simple and innocent – when missing weight was the most venal of sins. It was often dismissed as an act of gluttony or lax training, but that certainly wasn’t the case for Irish featherweight Paul Redmond (10-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who came in at 149 pounds for his promotional debut, which he lost via unanimous decision to Mirsad Bektic (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) on Jan. 24 at UFC on FOX 14 in Stockholm. On just two weeks’ notice, the Team Ryano exponent was asked to fight the undefeated Bektic after Alan Omer was forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury.

UFC on FOX 14 winner Albert Tumenov explains callout of Rick Story

Albert Tumenov Albert Tumenov has won three consecutive UFC fights. Now he’s looking for a step up in competition, which prompted a recent callout. Tumenov, 23, is one of the brightest prospects in the UFC welterweight division. The Russian lost a debatable split decision to Ildemar Alcântara in his promotional debut, but since then, it’s been smooth sailing inside the octagon. His most recent victory came this past weekend when he outpointed Nico Musoke en route to a decision victory in UFC on FOX 14’s featured preliminary-card bout.

The event, which saw Anthony Johnson stop Alexander Gustafsson with strikes in the first round, was held in front of an announced crowd of 30,000 fans Tele2 Arena with the main card airing live on FOX in the United States. Take a look behind the scenes of the event in this video that shows some of the preparation for the arena, fighters and UFC staff ahead of a night that saw the second largest attendance in UFC history.

Akira Corassani announces MMA retirement following UFC on FOX 14 loss

Akira Corassani After 18 pro fights, including six in the UFC, it appears featherweight Akira Corassani has announced his retirement from MMA. Although the Swedish fighter didn’t use the word “retire,” and the end of his message implied things could change down the road, a post on his Facebook page said he’s shutting things down. “I am full and content and I would never want to change a single thing,” Corassani said in his post. “My brain has filed for a divorce and doesn’t want to cooperate anymore. The passion and the technique is there but every car has a date (except for the Swedish Volvo 740).

Video appears to show Johnson headbutt causing knockdown of Gustafsson

Filed under: News , UFC , Videos Anthony Johnson ’s stoppage of Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on FOX 14 was shocking and violent. However, some fans feel that the win was tainted by a headbutt that they believe set up the end for the big Swede. Some may dismiss the idea of a Johnson (19-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) head-butt, accidental or not, as mere conspiracy theory. However, some videos, like the one above, have emerged that appear to show a clear foul dropping Gustafsson (16-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) before an eventual first-round TKO loss in Saturday’s network-televised event in Stockholm. The head-butt looks to land at the same time that Johnson is throwing a big overhand right, but there’s no doubt the heads do collide. It’s almost certain there will be no overturning of the fight to a no-contest, nor will a rematch be granted – something that would derail the now highly anticipated match between Johnson and light heavyweight king Jon Jones.

Following former opponent Alexander Gustafsson ’s loss to Anthony Johnson in Saturday’s UFC on FOX 14 headliner (and another night of not-so-mysteriously deleted tweets ), Jones issued his own top five for the division. Jones, who tweeted that he was “not impressed” by Gustafsson (16-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) after his first-round TKO loss to Johnson (19-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) in Stockholm (and then deleted it), subsequently issued his top 5. Not surprisingly, he’s at the top of the list.
