Glover Teixeira showed his dominance on the mat as he took Misha Cirkunov off his feet and finished him in swift fashion in Winnipeg, Canada. Teixeira, a former UFC light heavyweight title challenger, faced Cirkunov in December 2017 at UFC on FOX 26 looking to rebound from his knockout loss to Alexander Gustafsson. Meanwhile, Cirkunov was looking to bounce back from a knockout loss of his own, after suffering his first UFC defeat at the hands of Volkan Oezdemir. Teixeira’s experience advantage was evident when he was able to weather an early storm on the feet and take the fight to the mat.

Oluwale Bamgbose is apparently no longer part of the UFC roster, and he doesn’t appear to be concerned about burning bridges on his way out. Bamgbose (6-4 MMA, 1-4 UFC), who suffered a brutal knockout loss to Alessio Di Chirico (11-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) at UFC on FOX 26 this month to extend his skid to three fights, announced today on social media that he no longer has a working relationship with the UFC. “The Holy War Angel” had more to add, though, ripping the company for unfair treatment, poor fighter pay and causing him to lose his passion for the sport (via Twitter ): So its official I am no longer apart of the @ufc organization. Not gonna lie, I fell out of love for it for obvious reasons

UFC champ Max Holloway impressed with new contenders Brian Ortega, Josh Emmett

December was a good month for the UFC’s featherweight division. Champion Max Holloway made his first successful title defense, Brian Ortega scored a slick submission in a televised main event, and Josh Emmett connected with a massive knockout in the co-headliner of a network-televised fight card. Holloway (19-3 MMA, 15-3 UFC), who defended his title with a third-round TKO of Jose Aldo (26-4 MMA, 9-3 UFC) at UFC 218, said he liked what he saw out of the latter two, who are making a surge up the 145-pound rankings toward a crack at the gold. Ortega (13-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) remained undefeated in MMA when he tapped Cub Swanson with a tight choke in the UFC Fight Night 123, and Emmett (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) made a statement when he put the lights out on Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FOX 26. Both men beat opponents who have long been ranked in the top five, and Holloway said that’s a big deal. “I was impressed by the two wins by those guys – of course,” Holloway told MMAjunkie.

Perry (11-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio (26-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC) in their welterweight fight on Saturday at UFC on FOX 26, which took place at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and aired on FOX following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass. It was obviously not his expected result since “Platinum” guaranteed a knockout prior to the contest.
