It’s been quiet in a way, but Demetrious Johnson has become one of the UFC’s most dominant champions. On Saturday, Johnson (20-2-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) will put his title up once again when he meets Chris Cariaso (17-5 MMA, 6-4 UFC) to headline UFC 178. Johnson is a massive favorite in the fight – as much as 16-to-1 at some sites. That would presumably make another win for him somewhat short of his biggest victories so far. Before they fought for the UFC flyweight title, champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger Joseph Benavidez talked backstage at the prefight news conference about awkward locker room potential. UFC President Dana White’s latest vlog, which was released ahead of Saturday’s big UFC 168 event, takes us behind the scenes of UFC on FOX 9 earlier this month, which featured Johnson and Benavidez in the main event. “Mighty Mouse” had to defend his belt in Benavidez’s Sacramento training hometown – and Benavidez had three teammates on the card. But Benavidez was the only one of the four fighting from the blue corner, which meant that Johnson had to share a side of the stage at the press conference with Benavidez teammates Urijah Faber and Chad Mendes. Check out the scene about 1:20 into the video to see Benavidez and Johnson talking about the potential awkwardness if Johnson had to share a locker room with Benavidez’s training partners.

And as far as “The California Kid” was concerned, well … maybe next time, Michael. Faber (30-6 MMA, 6-2 UFC) took care of McDonald (16-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in convincing fashion in the co-main event of UFC on FOX 9 a week ago. UFC on FOX 9 winners Bobby Green, Abel Trujillo booked for UFC 169

A pair of this past weekend’s biggest lightweight winners will return to action quickly, and against each other. Bobby Green (22-5 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and Abel Trujillo (11-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC), who each picked up significant wins at UFC on FOX 9 this past Saturday, have been booked to fight at UFC 169 in February. UFC 169 takes place on Feb. 1 at Prudential Center at Newark, N.J. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view while prelims are expected to air on FOX Sports 1. A pair of title fights headlines the Super Bowl Saturday card as bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz returns to meet interim champ Renan Barao in a title unification bout, and featherweight champ Jose Aldo defends against Ricardo Lamas.

Joseph Benavidez knows the odds might be stacked against him right now, but said he’ll keep a one-day-at-a-time mentality toward getting another crack at his dream. Benavidez (19-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC) this past Saturday lost his second shot at the UFC’s flyweight title when he was knocked out by Demetrious Johnson (19-2-1 MMA, 7-1-1 UFC) in the first round at UFC on FOX 9 . Not only was it the first time Johnson had been stopped in his pro career, but it happened in front of his hometown crowd in Sacramento, where he has long been a member of the famed Team Alpha Male camp. Benavidez’s four losses have come against only two opponents – bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and 125-pound titleholder Johnson.

Joe Lauzon not taking Danzig’s stance, but might welcome new UFC sponsor program
