UFC middleweight Tom Watson (16-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) may not be a household name or ranked fighter, but that doesn’t mean his aspirations fall short of earning a world championship. “Whenever I’m with an organization, the goal is to become the champion and – that’s what the belt represents,” Watson told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). “The UFC is the same when I signed. I signed to be the champion, I didn’t sign to face some UFC fighters and have a good time.”  After splitting his first two trips to the octagon, the 31-year-old is just days away from his opportunity to truly let fans know what he’s all about when he makes his UFC pay-per-view debut against Thales Leites (20-4 MMA, 5-3 UFC) at UFC 163. Leites was a UFC title challenger himself once upon a time, and a victory over him, especially inside the hostile HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, would raise Watson’s stock higher than ever before. His fight with Leites is on the pay-per-view main card following prelims on FX and Facebook

Even with their media exposure, Ronda Rousey takes pleasure in getting one over on her rival Miesha Tate . The UFC women’s bantamweight champion said an ESPN story on female athletes and breasts wasn’t just exciting because she was quoted, but because she got more copy than Tate. “Know why it was so awesome?” Rousey asked MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “Because it was the ‘Body Issue,’ and my picture with clothes on was bigger than Miesha’s naked picture, and my article quoted me more than her little snippet.” In the story, Rousey, a bronze medal winner in judo at the 2008 Olympics, spoke colorfully about about grappling with her own body as she fought Liz Carmouche at UFC 157, which was the first UFC pay-per-view event to feature female headliners.

The UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson preliminary bout telecast on FX drew the lowest TV ratings of any UFC pay-per-view event prelims since UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort last September. The UFC 161 Prelims drew an average audience of 968,000 viewers on Saturday. That was a significant decrease from the UFC 160: Velasquez vs. Bigfoot II prelims, which amassed 1.3 million viewers. The UFC 152 prelims bottomed out at 955,000 viewers. The UFC 161 Prelims accounted for the third lowest total audience of the 19 UFC pay-per-view event prelim broadcasts on FX.
