Michael McDonald makes a list of improvements he needs after each of his fights in the UFC. It’s one of the ways he keeps focused on improving as a fighter. After his bout against UFC interim champ Renan Barao at UFC on FUEL TV 7, he had a long list. “This one, I changed my diet, I changed the way I take care of my body, (and) I changed my strategy,” McDonald (15-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC), who next fights Brad Pickett (23-7 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 26, told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). Prior to meeting Barao, MacDonald had never been defeated in the Zuffa-owned WEC and UFC and had lost just once in 16 pro fights.

UFC 163: Aldo vs. Korean Zombie failed to drive much interest heading into Saturday’s pay-per-view event, which emanated from Rio de Janeiro, and that was reflected in the TV ratings for the preliminary bout broadcast on FX. The UFC 163 Prelims on FX attracted an audience of 1,000,000 viewers for the four-bout, two-hour broadcast. UFC 163 admittedly suffered from a lack of promotional attention overall with the launch of Fox’s new nationwide sports network, Fox Sports 1, and the re-branding of Fuel TV to Fox Sports 2, receiving the lion’s share of the media giant’s focus.

Jorge Masvidal vs. Rustam Khabilov set for November UFC on FOX Sports 1 card

That didn’t take long. Jorge Masvidal moved to 2-0 in the UFC on Saturday, and he’s already got his next assignment. Masvidal (25-7 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has been booked for a lightweight fight against Rustam Khabilov (16-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC). FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” correspondent Ariel Helwani reported the news as part of Tuesday night’s episode. The fight reportedly will take place in November on a yet-to-be-announced FOX Sports 1 card. Masvidal this past Saturday submitted Michael Chiesa in the second round at UFC on FOX 8, which took place at KeyArena in Seattle. Despite a rough first round in which Masvidal was dropped by a Chiesa left hand, he went on to hand Chiesa his first career loss with a guillotine D’Arce choke. Masvidal, a former lightweight title challenger in Strikeforce, now has won three straight since his loss to Gilbert Melendez for that belt in December 2011.

As a reminder, the UFC’s traditional pre-event show returns tonight with the debut of “Countdown to UFC 163: Aldo vs. Korean Zombie” on FUEL TV. The one-hour special previews the card’s headlining featherweight title fight between current champ Jose Aldo (22-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) and his challenger, “The Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung (13-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC). The show debuts at 11 p.m. ET (8 p.m. PT) and is also expected to look at a handful of other key matchups on the card. Replays air throughout the week on FUEL TV and FOX Sports Net affiliates.
