NEW YORK – It’s not like the UFC’s women’s flyweight division is just overflowing with fighters, so a Viviane Araujo stat this week might be an anomaly. Still, the fact remains: For the fourth straight fight, Araujo (12-6 MMA, 6-5 UFC), from Brazil, will step into the cage against another Brazilian. This time, it’ll be Karine Silva (18-4 MMA, 4-0 UFC) at UFC 309 (pay-per-view, ESPNews/Hulu/FX, ESPN+) on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York.

A women’s flyweight fight with top-10 implications is on the docket for Madison Square Garden. Karine Silva and Viviane Araujo will collide Nov. 16 at UFC 309 in New York. Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the matchup but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Silva (18-4 MMA, 4-0 UFC) has shot up the UFC women’s flyweight ladder since her promotional debut in 2022. Thus far, she holds wins over Poliana Botelho, Ketlen Souza, Maryna Moroz, and most recently Ariane Lipski.

A pair of women’s flyweights whose trajectories have been going in opposite directions are set to square off this summer. Viviane Araujo (12-6 MMA, 6-5 UFC) will take on Jasmine Jasdavicious (10-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) at a UFC Fight Night event set for July 13, though a venue and location have not been announced. A person with knowledge of the booking confirmed the matchup to MMA Junkie on condition of anonymity since the UFC has not announced the fight. MMA Junkie’s Nolan King first reported the matchup. Viviane Araujo (12-6) vs. Jasmine Jasudavicius (10-3) is booked for July 13, multiple sources tell @Farah_Hannoun and me.

In Araujo’s case at women’s flyweight, that’s Alexa Grasso, who happens to be Araujo spent 25 minutes with. And it was that unanimous decision win over her that got Grasso a title shot, which led to an upset of Valentina Shevchenko – and another upset in their rematch. Given Araujo (11-5 MMA, 5-4 UFC) has lost back-to-back fights heading into her UFC Fight Night 230 co-main event against Jennifer Maia (21-9-1 MMA, 6-5 UFC), she’s not likely to get another crack at Grasso with just one win. Still, she’ll plan as if that will be the case. “It was details that lost the fight (for me) over those five rounds, and since then she’s been evolving a lot,” Araujo said through a translator at Wednesday’s media day for UFC Fight Night 230
