War Machine, a three-time Bellator veteran and cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter 6,” is currently serving a life sentence in Nevada for the August 2014 incident, which left Mack with broken teeth, a fractured rib and a severely ruptured liver. After a lengthy recovery process, Mack played an integral role in assisting prosecutors earn a conviction in War Machine’s jury trial, and she has been vocal about the danger she believes the fighter still presents. However, Mack wasn’t the only victim that night.

For Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson, sexual violence and assault sadly are things he deals with on a regular basis. But it’s cases like War Machine ’s, born Jon Koppenhaver, that boosted his faith in the justice system. “First and foremost, I think the message is that domestic violence is unacceptable,” Wolfson told MMAjunkie two days after War Machine received a 36-years-to-life sentence for the 2014 sexual assault and beating of ex-girlfriend Christy Mack and her boyfriend. “To any of your readers who are in an abusive situation, I would encourage them to reach out to family and friends, police agencies, women’s shelters, or any other kinds of services so they can get out of an abusive relationship.” Machine was sentenced Monday after his attorneys staged a last-ditch effort to get another trial. A judge heard his plea for leniency, as well as statements from Mack – real name Christine Mackinday – and the other victim in the case, Corey Thomas. Machine was convicted in March on 29 of 34 counts brought by the district attorney’s office, which included sexual assault, kidnapping and coercion in connection with an August 2014 attack of Mack and Thomas at her home in Las Vegas

Former UFC and Bellator MMA fighter War Machine has been sentenced to 36 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving 36 years for the brutal beating of his ex-girlfriend, Christy Mack, and her boyfriend, Corey Thomas. Machine, born Jon Koppenhaver, will be 71 years old when he becomes eligible for parole. In March, Machine was found guilty on 29 of 34 charges after two days of jury deliberation. The charges included sexual assault, kidnapping and coercion, though the jury deadlocked on the most serious charges of attempted murder.

A Las Vegas jury today found former UFC and Bellator MMA fighter War Machine guilty on multiple charges in connection with the beating of his ex-girlfriend, Christy Mack, in 2014. War Machine, born Jon Koppenhaver, was found guilty on 29 of 34 charges, including sexual assault, kidnapping, and coercion. He avoided the most serious charges as jurors deadlocked on two attempted-murder chargers. Koppenhaver could face up to life in prison. Jurors spent two days deliberating the charges against Koppenhaver, who broke into Mack’s house on Aug. 8, 2014 and attacked her and her boyfriend, Corey Thomas, leaving both with serious injuries.

War Machine Jonathan Koppenhaver, aka “ War Machine ,” will face two counts of attempted murder when his case goes to trial in September, a judge ruled Wednesday. Koppenhaver’s defense attorney, Brandon Sua, argued the ex-UFC and Bellator MMA fighter did not intend to kill ex-girlfriend Christy Mackinday or her friend Corey Thomas when he allegedly broke into her Las Vegas home this past August and assaulted them. Las Vegas district judge Elissa Cadish said there was enough circumstantial evidence to show Koppnhaver’s intent and declined to drop the pair of attempted murder charges, which carry a possible sentence of life without parole.

In a note reportedly written prior to a failed suicide attempt, MMA fighter War Machine addresses friends and family before eventually suggesting that “society has killed men” and the he “was never meant to live in this era anyway.” War Machine, aka Jon Koppenhaver (before a legal name change), tried to kill himself in his Las Vegas jail cell this past week following his arrest on multiple charges , including attempted murder, in August. War Machine, 32, allegedly assaulted his former girlfriend, porn actress Christy Mack, while in her home with boyfriend Corey Thomas. According to a report subsequently unsealed by the Clark County (Nev.) District Attorney’s Office, the assault left Mack with two missing teeth , a blowout orbital fracture, a lacerated liver, swelling and bruises. In the suicide note, obtained and published by TMZ, War Machine expressed regret that Mack was injured but never takes accountability
