Bellator 258 weigh-in results: Main event competitors hit the mark; one other fighter misses weight

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – MMA Junkie was on scene at Thursday’s official Bellator 258 fighter weigh-ins. The weigh-ins took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The same venue hosts Friday’s event, which has a main card on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie. Among those who weighed in were bantamweight champion Juan Archuleta (25-2 MMA, 7-1 BMMA), who puts his title on the line against challenger Sergio Pettis (20-5 MMA, 2-0 BMMA). Plus, Jose Augusto (7-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) meets Anthony Johnson (22-6 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in the light heavyweight tournament.

The bantamweight theme continues for Bellator 258. Like the first three additions to the May 7 card, the fourth is also a fight between two of the promotion’s 135-pound notables. Henry Corrales and Keith Lee are set to square off at the event, which takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Johnny Eblen vs. Daniel Madrid (18-6 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) at middleweight, and Weber Almeida (4-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) vs. Johnny Soto (3-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) at featherweight, also have been added to the preliminary card.

Bellator extends Lyoto Machida protege Weber Almeida with new multi-fight deal

Featherweight Weber Almeida is sticking around with Bellator. A Lyoto Machida protege, Almeida (4-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) took another step toward his goal of Bellator champion by signing a new multi-fight deal with the promotion. A Bellator official recently informed MMA Junkie of the extension, but did not disclose details of the new contract.

Almeida (4-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), a protege of former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, brutalized Salim Mukhidinov (7-5 MMA, 1-2 BMMA) before earning a first-round TKO on Friday night at Bellator 244. The win was the fourth in as many career fights – all of which have ended by knockout or TKO. In a post-fight news conference, Almeida revealed he had recently been featured in a movie. He hopes to pursue more acting gigs but only after he becomes Bellator champion
