Matt Brown Hopes His UFC Fight Night 26 Finish of Mike Pyle Earns Him a Marquee Match-up Next

Matt Brown (18-11) is making a strong case for himself being one of the most dangerous welterweights on the planet. The 32-year-old Cincinnati native has strung together a six-fight winning streak in the talent-rich 170-pound division, finishing his last four opponents. Riding high off his UFC Fight Night 26 first-round knockout of Mike Pyle , Brown hopes his recent performances earn him a marquee match-up in his next outing. “Hopefully it put me somewhere, in a good position to get some big fights,” said Brown during the UFC Fight Night 26 post-fight press conference. “In this sport you get what you earn, not what you deserve, so hopefully I earned something good here.” UFC president Dana White was impressed by Brown’s quick finish of Pyle, and believes Brown will face a top ten opponent next. “He made quick work out of a guy whom a lot of people respect, a tough, durable guy,” said White. “I think the fight put him in a real good position to possibly get a spot in that top ten and fight one of the guys in the top ten.” Brown’s win over Pyle accompanied by his winning streak will likely move him into the top ten rankings. And while a top ten-ranked opponent likely awaits him in his next outing, Brown has his eye on the man sitting at the top of the division, Georges St-Pierre .

Welterweights Adlan Amagov vs. T.J. Waldburger added to UFC 166

A welterweight matchup between Adlan Amagov (12-2-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and T.J. Waldburger (16-7 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has been added to the UFC 166 fight card. UFC 166 takes place Oct. 19 at Toyota Center in Houston. The event’s main card, which features a rubber match between heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos , airs live on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook.

Referee Herb Dean draws double duty in UFC on FOX 8 main and co-main events

SEATTLE – Veteran referee Herb Dean will oversee the two top-billed fights at UFC on FOX 8. Dean is the third man in the cage for the event’s title headliner between flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga , which will be judged by Sal D’Amato, Chris Lee and Lester Griffin. Just prior to that fight, Dean also officiates the co-main draw between welterweights Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald , which will be judged by D’Amato, Dave Hagen and Griffin. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) on Friday received UFC on FOX 8 referee and judging assignments from the Washington State Department of Licensing, which oversees the state’s combative sports program. Two middleweights-turned-welterweights who are on the rebound will soon clash when Hector Lombard (32-4-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) meets Nate Marquardt (32-12-2 MMA, 10-5 UFC) at UFC 166. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the planned matchup with sources close to the event following an initial report from MMAFighting.com . UFC officials haven’t made a formal announcement. You may remember Rob Kimmons (25-9) from his time with the UFC and Tyler Stinson (25-9) from his stints with Bellator and Strikeforce. Now, you’ll remember their recent clash due to the carnage. The fighters met this past Saturday at Epic Fight Night 1 in Kansas City, Mo. Unfortunately, one of the Midwestern welterweights left the cage with a first-round TKO loss and a nasty ankle injury. American Top Team fighter Steve Montgomery (4-2) knew this was going to be his moment. A life-changing visit to train with the famed Diaz brothers had given him a new outlook on his MMA career, and this was his time to shine. Then came something he never anticipated. “I had this caged-animal-type posture because I had so much aggression that I was ready to let out,” Montgomery told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “I was ready to find out who I was fighting, and I was really excited. For them to call me out against my teammate, my posture just dropped.” Montgomery was one of 32 welterweights picked to compete on the debut season of Bellator MMA’s “Fight Master.” With a $100,000 grand prize and a spot in a future Bellator tournament on the line, Montgomery had put in several months of dedicated training toward prepping himself for the opportunity. Together with fellow ATT fighter Cristiano Souza , the pair pushed each other in training and plotted their path to the top. The path didn’t exactly follow their plan.
