UFC heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum wants to wait for the winner of champion Cain Velasquez and former titleholder Junior dos Santos . UFC Tonight recently reported the 36-year-old’s desire to wait for a title shot. Werdum (17-5-1) has won his three fights in the UFC since returning to the organization in February 2012, defeating Roy Nelson , Mike Russow and former champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira . The Brazilian also has notable wins over Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Alistair Overeem . Werdum last competed on June 8, and expects to be back in action in February or March, but has no problems waiting a bit longer for a title shot. Velasquez and dos Santos fight for a third time at UFC 166 on Oct. 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston. They split their two previous meetings

He’s currently in the midst of working his way down to 205 pounds, planning to fight one more time at heavyweight before making the drop. And there seems to be no shortage of opponents for him before he finally debuts at light heavyweight. UFC president Dana White recently confirmed that Fabricio Werdum asked him to fight Cormier after Werdum defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his most recent fight. Cormier said he was fine with that fight, but White may have other plans for the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion. White told Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports that he is currently in negotiations with Roy Nelson for a new contract. Nelson fulfilled his last contract with a loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC 161 in June. In fact, other than teammate and current UFC champion Cain Velasquez , he’s willing to fight anybody the organization throws at him. Cormier, a former Strikeforce grand prix winner who recently made his UFC debut with a victory over Frank Mir , is awaiting his next assignment. Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Stefan Struve Not Happening Any Time Soon, Big Nog Sidelined for 3 Months

There has been a minor war of words brewing between UFC heavyweights Stefan Struve and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira , leading many to believe that a fight was imminent. They won’t be fighting anytime soon, however, as Big Nog’s manager, Ed Soares, recently told MMAFighting.com that the former UFC and Pride champion wouldn’t return to training for at least three months following surgery. Nogueira had to undergo surgery after an MRI revealed extensive ligament damage in his left elbow stemming from an armbar submission loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC on Fuel TV 10 on June 8 in Brazil. Nogueira also required surgery following a Kimura submission loss to Frank Mir in late 2011. That surgery required 16 screws in his humerus, but Nogueira still managed to return to the Octagon 10 months later to defeat Dave Herman.

UFC heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum recently finished being a coach on the second season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil opposite Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira . He has offered to do it again in Mexico opposite UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez . The Brazilian does UFC commentary in Spanish and could be a perfect fit for the job. “I mentioned about doing an Ultimate Fighter in Mexico. For those who don’t know, I am a commentator for the UFC in Spanish because I can speak in Spanish as a commentator because I lived many years in Spain,” said Werdum. “I gave the idea to the UFC about doing an Ultimate Fighter against Cain Velasquez in Mexico.” There’s one major hiccup in him coaching opposite Velasquez.

Seems as though whatever brand of magic it is that flows through Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira ‘s veins when he fights in Brazil doesn’t work on fellow Brazilians. Or, since our sample size is still too small to draw any firm conclusions, maybe it just doesn’t work on Fabricio Werdum . If you’re one of those people who can barely be troubled to watch “The Ultimate Fighter” when it’s in English (*discreetly raises hand*), and so spent the better part of the past year wondering if Werdum had renounced professional violence and gone off to live in a monastery, consider Saturday night’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 main event your reminder. “Vai Cavalo” is still here, and he’s still pretty damned good. The question is, how good? Because I’m not sure his win over Nogueira gave us much of an answer. That’s not a knock on “Big Nog.” He might sometimes walk like the Tin Man when he’s outside the cage, but once his foot hits that mat he’s still a dangerous fighter with plenty of tricks up his sleeve

Werdum laid out the ambitious plans following Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. Werdum submitted “Big Nog,” his rival coach on “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2,” in the night’s main event. After the show, Werdum (17-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) discussed what’s next. The Brazilian has won three straight fights since his return to the organization, and overall, he’s 6-1 since ending his first UFC run in 2008. As great as it was for Fabricio Werdum to avenge a loss and topple his idol at UFC on Fuel TV 10 in Fortaleza, Brazil, on Saturday night, beating Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira still didn’t rank as the highest accomplishment of his mixed martial arts career. That position is still reserved for Werdum’s victory over Fedor Emelianenko when the two fought under the Strikeforce banner. “It was definitely Fedor,” Werdum said at Saturday night’s press conference. He fought just one more time for Strikeforce following the win over Fedor . He lost a unanimous decision to Alistair Overeem in what proved to be lackluster efforts from both men. Werdum immediately rebounded when he moved to the UFC , reeling off victories over Roy Nelson and Mike Russow en route to his rematch with Nogueira. Now he is in the thick of UFC heavyweight title talk.
