Seven months after he made his promotional debut against Juan Archuleta at Bellator 195, Joplin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August 2018. At the time of diagnosis, Joplin’s cancer was already aggressive and had metastasized into other organs

The event took place at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb., and the entire card streamed on UFC Fight Pass. In the welterweight headliner, Valdir Araujo (16-6) scored a second-round TKO victory over Dakota Cochrane (23-10), and in a 195-pound catchweight bout that served as the co-headliner, Maki Pitolo (6-2) secured a second-round TKO win over Andrews Nakahara (4-3-2). However, perhaps the night’s biggest knockout came further down on the card when undefeated bantamweight prospect Raufeon Stots (5-0) blasted William Joplin (13-12) with a head kick and stopped the fight in just 78 seconds. In front of a partisan crowd, Nebraskan Dakota Cochrane narrowly survived his opponent’s third-round rally to score a decision victory over fellow lightweight Efrain Escudero . The bout headlined RFA 13, which took place Friday at Pershing Center in Lincoln, Neb. The main card aired on AXS TV. The fight boasted alumni from “The Ultimate Fighter.” Escudero won Season 8 and Cochrane had a brief appearance on the 15th season
