It’s not the first time Cage Warriors’ Jack Mason has gone on a win streak, and so the recent success he’s found in the welterweight division isn’t cause to start making big proclamations about his future. “I’m not looking past this fight,” Mason told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). “I’m getting the job done, because if I don’t, nothing else is going to happen. So I’ve got to get it done, and then I’ll look to the future. “Of course, I really want to challenge for the Cage Warriors title, and some day, I want to get to the UFC.” But that’s the goal of pretty much everyone in Cage Warriors, if you ask them. The promotion increasingly is taking the role of a springboard to the Las Vegas-based fight organization, as the signing of featherweight champ Conor McGregor attests. A four-fight win streak such as the one Mason currently owns is just the kind of leverage needed to get into the octagon.

Cub Swanson Wants a Title Shot, but Isn’t Going to Wait for One

UFC featherweight contender Cub Swanson wants a title shot against champion Jose Aldo , but isn’t going to sit around and wait for it to happen. Riding a five-fight winning streak and finishing four of his last five opponents, Swanson has positioned himself on a short list of names at the top of the 145-pound division. Aldo is scheduled to face Chan Sung Jung , “The Korean Zombie,” on August 3 at UFC 163 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and if Swanson has to take another fight before getting a crack at the title, he has some names in mind. “Well, if they are going to give someone else Aldo then that’s way too long for me to wait. I’m in prime position right now. I’m doing well. There’s no sense in me waiting, but I do want that fight and if I have to fight one more time then I would like the Ricardo Lamas fight or the Frankie Edgar fight,” Swanson told MMAWeekly.com content partner Knockout Radio . “There’s also Chad Mendes , but he’s got to get through my teammate, Clay Guida , first,” he added. “So my first choice would be Aldo. I don’t think The Korean Zombie is going to beat him and so then after that it would either be Lamas or Edgar. They’d be my next choices.” Taking another fight in the talent-rich 145-pound division is risky, but it’s a risk Swanson is willing to take. “I’ve thought about that and I just think that if I did, for some reason, lose because the talent is so high, I wouldn’t get down on myself. I would just make the adjustments and try to get right back on a win streak because at this point of my career and in my life, I’m having so much fun fighting and I just like to get out there and do it,” he said

Despite being a 2-to-1 underdog to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva , fellow UFC 162 headliner Chris Weidman has been a popular underdog pick in recent weeks. The title challenger has noticed too. Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC), a Division I All-American wrestler who’s undefeated since his move to MMA in 2009, meets Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) in the headliner of Saturday’s pay-per-view event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. While Weidman’s a +200 underdog with most sportsbooks, fellow fighters and many industry insiders have predicted he’ll pull off the upset. Doing so against Silva, arguably the greatest fighter in UFC history, is no easy task. UFC 161 results/photos: Stipe Miocic outstrikes Roy Nelson for one-sided victory

WINNIPEG – Stepping in to face Stipe Miocic on just three-weeks’ notice proved to be too much of a challenge for Roy Nelson, who saw a three-fight win streak snapped in a unanimous-decision loss. The heavyweight bout co-headlined today’s UFC 161 event at MTS Centre in Winnipeg. It aired on pay-per-view after prelims on FX and Facebook. Nelson, who stepped in on short notice to face Miocic to add star power to a card that lost its original main event, was never really in the fight. Miocic steered clear of the big right hand in the early going while looking for a few quick takedown attempts. Meanwhile, Nelson shucked off the moves and looked to deliver his trademark power punches. It was Miocic’s speed that proved the difference in the first, as he largely avoided taking any punches from “Big Country” while slipping and delivering countershots in bunches. Nelson appeared to tire as the round wore on, taking a few looks up at the clock

UFC, WEC veteran Diego Nunes signs with Bellator MMA

UFC and WEC veteran Diego Nunes (18-4) will take the next step in his career with Bellator MMA. Sources close to the promotion on Monday confirmed the featherweight’s signing, which is expected to be made official soon. Brazilian outlet Ataque Total first reported the news. Nunes was released from the UFC this past winter following a unanimous decision loss to Nik Lentz at UFC on FX 7 in Brazil. That loss gave him two decision setbacks in three fights. Overall, Nunes, from Brazil, went 3-3 in his stint with the UFC, but his most recent win streak came in 2010-11, when he had a three-fight run with victories over Raphael Assuncao and Tyler Toner in the WEC and a split-decision win over Mike Brown in his UFC debut..
