Esparza (19-6) is the two-time strawweight champion. This weekend’s fight against Weili (22-3) will be the first title defense of her second reign. Esparza is riding a six-fight winning streak and is coming off her second win over former titleholder Rose Namajunas .

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion and current WWE star Ronda Rousey has been at the top of mixed martial arts and at the top of professional wrestling. She became the first UFC female champion in November 2012, and successfully defended the 135-pound title six times. She was also the first female to headline a UFC fight card as well as the first female WWE headliner. She never officially announced her retirement from MMA competition, but it’s assumed that her days in the cage are over. She last fought in December 2016. After leaving the UFC, Rousey enjoyed acting opportunities before landing in the WWE

Rose Namajunas hints at possible move to flyweight

Former two-time UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas has been enjoying some downtime since losing the belt to Carla Esparza in early May. Miesha Tate plans to make ‘statement of her career’ against Lauren Murphy

Former women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate will make her flyweight debut on Saturday against No. 3 ranked former title challenger Lauren Murphy on the UFC Long Island main card. With a win over Murphy, Tate would find herself on a very short list to fight champion Valentina Shevchenko next. She plans on making a statement at UBS Arena against ‘Lucky.’ “I really want to make this fight the statement of my career, so I have big plans for this fight,” Tate said during Wednesday’s UFC Long Island Media Day. “I am so ready to go.” Tate knows a win could land her a title shot and the opportunity to become a two-division UFC champion. She’s optimistic about her future in the 125-pound division and plans to call for a title shot if she defeats Murphy.

Miesha Tate vs. Lauren Murphy rebooked for UFC Long Island

The women’s flyweight bout between former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate and Lauren Murphy has been rebooked for the July 16 at USB Arena in Elmont, New York. Tate and Murphy were originally slated to fight at UFC on ESPN 36 on May 14. The bout was inexplicably rescheduled for UFC 276.
