Bryson Gutches LAS VEGAS – Nevada State Athletic Commission officials today suspended onetime Bellator MMA heavyweight James Wilson (3-2) and onetime WSOF lightweight Bryson Gutches (2-0) each nine months for separate failed drug tests. The two disciplinary complaints were heard at today’s monthly meeting of the NSAC, which took place at the Grant Sawyer Office Building in Las Vegas and which MMAjunkie attended.

NSAC suspends UFC’s Robert Drysdale and WSOF’s Bryson Gutches

The Nevada State Athletic Commission today suspended UFC light heavyweight Robert Drysdale for one year and fined him 33 percent of the purse he earned at The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale following a failed post-fight drug test. Drysdale’s first-round submission win over Keith Barish was also overturned to a no-contest, and the fighter was ordered to pass a drug test prior to being relicensed, the commission ruled in a unanimous vote at a hearing in Las Vegas. A post-fight drug test at the July 6 event revealed Drysdale (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) had a 12:1 testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio , which is well above the 6:1 limit accepted by the commission. Main-card victor Elvis Mutapcic ($20,000) was the top earner at this past weekend’s WSOF 12 event, a few grand ahead of main-event winner Luis Palomino ($18,000). MMAjunkie obtained the list of paydays from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. WSOF 12 took place this past Saturday at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Sayles (3-0) was knocked down and nearly stopped in the first round by Hansen (7-2), but he went on to do good work in the second and third – when Hansen seemed to fade. The third round saw the fight hanging in the balance, but despite a late takedown from Hansen, Sayles was right back up and went on to get a trio of 29-28 scores

Markes (15-3) made relatively easy work of Butterfield (13-4) in the co-main event of WSOF 12 on Saturday, picking up a unanimous decision with 29-28 scores on all three cards. But in the first two rounds, Markes made it look like more of a blowout than the scores later would indicate. WSOF lightweight Jimmy Spicuzza thinks he once was just like everyone else on the MMA amateur circuit, trying out a crazy sport to see if it was right for him. What was different about him, he thought, is that he kind of knew it was. Spicuzza got into fighting because he had anger issues while growing up, he told MMAjunkie Radio. That put him squarely in the territory of so many who strap on gloves and fight in front of other people, if not for the fact that his reasons for doing it changed as he immersed himself more deeply in the sport. “This journey wouldn’t mean anything if I didn’t use it for something positive,” Spicuzza, 29, said. That something is working with others who share his background and helping them to deal with the emotions that once twisted him in knots before he decided to push his rage outward
