WSOF 23 medical suspensions: Title challenger Luis Palomino among 10 shut down

Justin Gaethje and Luis Palomino Ten total fighters, including the two-time main event title challenger, were issued medical suspensions following this past Friday’s WSOF 23 event. MMAjunkie today requested and obtained the official disclosed paydays from the Arizona Boxing and MMA Commission. In the main event, WSOF lightweight champ Justin Gaethje retained his title with a knockout of Luis Palomino . The fight was a rematch of their first bout in March, which Gaethje also won. Palomino was given a 45-day suspension for the TKO loss, as well as for a cut above his left eye that needed to be stitched

David Branch WSOF lightweight champ Justin Gaethje and newly minted light heavyweight champ David Branch each took home $100,000 for their wins at WSOF 23. In the event’s headliner, Gaethje knocked out Luis Palomino in a rematch of a March barnburner, while Branch won the inaugural light heavyweight title with a submission of Teddy Holder , adding to the middleweight belt he already owns. MMAjunkie today requested and obtained the official disclosed paydays from the Arizona Boxing and MMA Commission

Branch (17-3) continued his dominant post-UFC run this past Friday at WSOF 23. In the NBCSN-televised co-headliner at Phoenix’s Comerica Theatre, he scored a first-round submission win over Teddy Holder (9-2) in the organization’s light-heavyweight tournament final to claim the inaugural belt and add to the middleweight title he won in 2014 (watch the Branch vs. Holder video highlights ).

So he did what any costumed crimefighter would do: He channeled a professional wrestler. “It was such a mix of things,” Fodor told MMAjunkie after the win. “At the time of it, I was thinking, ‘Am I seriously going to get the neck scissors right now? I’m going to get him with a pro wrestling Iron Sheik. WSOF suspends Vagab Vagabov for five months following post-fight infraction

Vagab Vagabov While he picked up a win at this past weekend’s WSOF 23 event , undefeated middleweight prospect Vagab Vagabov will be sidelined for five months for losing his cool after his victory over Brian Grinnell. WSOF Executive Vice President and matchmaker Ali Abdelaziz today told MMAjunkie that the promotion issued the sanctions because Vagabov clearly struck Grinnell multiple times after referee Al Guinee waved off the pair’s preliminary contest in the second round. “I spoke with Vagab and his team, and they were very apologetic for his actions,” Abdelaziz said. “Vagab got caught up in the moment and expressed remorse for his mistake, but as a company, we simply cannot let moments like this go without addressing them directly
