WSOF is shifting its promotional resources by cancelling two upcoming events and merging them into the newly minted WSOF 34. WSOF 34 and 35 are now scrapped, with WSOF 36 rebranded as WSOF 34, the promotion’s end-of-year event.

WSOF lightweight champ Justin Gaethje puts his title on the line at Friday’s WSOF 33 event, and while “The Highlight” insists he’s not looking past his opponent, he already knows what’s coming next. “They got this big show at the end of the year on Dec. 31,” Gaethje told MMAjunkie. “I will be headlining that card no matter what.” Gaethje (16-0) takes on Ozzy Dugulubgov (8-2) at Friday’s event, which takes place at Kansas City Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

Not long after MMA was legalized in New York , WSOF officials announced a bold NBC-televised New Year’s Eve card to be held in the Big Apple. While some may see the move as a challenging one, WSOF CEO Carlos Silva approaches it differently. If anything, Silva believes the late afternoon Saturday event will benefit from the festivities in one of the world’s busiest cities. “I know a lot of people do a lot of things on New Year’s Eve, but New York City is one of those things,” Silva told MMAjunkie. “And if you’re headed down to the city, or you live around it or you’re going to spend your New Year’s Eve night in New York City, 4-to-6 in the afternoon is a way to kick off that evening. You show up to the arena at around 1 p.m

WSOF 36 heads to New York City for NBC-televised event on New Year’s Eve

With MMA now legal in the Empire State , WSOF is heading to New York for a network-televised event on New Year’s Eve. Officials announced on Saturday that WSOF 36 is slated for Dec. 31 at iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City, and the main card airs on NBC. WSOF, which usually airs its even on the smaller NBCSN sports-cable channel, first needs final approval from the new New York State Athletic Commission, according to a release.
