For the third time, Xiong Jing Nan and Angela Lee squared off inside the cage – and for the for the third time fight fans were treated to some high-level, high-paced action. Atop the ONE on Prime Video 2 event Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore, champion Xiong (17-3) and challenger Lee (12-2) competed in a trilogy rubber-match for the women’s strawweight title. When the dust settled, Xiong was declared winner by unanimous decision. There was a lot of dust that was kicked up over the span of five, five-minute rounds, but initially it looked like the bout might be stopped early on in the contest. Angela Lee and Xiong Jing Nan will make women’s MMA history together at ONE on Prime Video 2, but Lee hopes to make some history of her own, too. Lee, the ONE Championship women’s atomweight champion, is moving up from 115 pounds to 125 to challenge strawweight titleholder Xiong in what will be their third encounter, marking the first time that a major MMA title-fight trilogy has taken place between two women.

On Friday, ONE on Prime Video 2 is headlined by a historic trilogy. In the main event, strawweight champion Xiong Jing Nan puts her 125-pound title on the line against atomweight champ Angela Lee . The third encounter between the two fighters will make the first major title-fight trilogy in women’s MMA history, with Xiong and Lee splitting victories in their two previous encounters. On March 31, 2019, Lee’s bid to become a champ-champ was derailed when Xiong finished her by fifth-round TKO with body kicks and punches at ONE Championship: A New Era. Then in the rematch on Oct 13, 2019, Lee got her revenge when she finished Xiong with a rear-naked choke submission in the fourth round to retain her atomweight title. ONE Championship has revealed the lineup for the promotion’s first event of 2022, and a strawweight title fight will serve in the headlining slot. Reigning champion Xiong Jing Nan (16-2) of China will put her title on the line against Japan’s Ayaka Miura (11-3) in the main event of “ ONE Championship: Heavy Hitters ,” which takes place Jan. 14 at Singapore Indoor Stadium. The card streams on B/R Live. Nan claimed the ONE strawweight belt in 2018 and has since racked up five defenses of her belt.

ONE Championship 118: Xiong Jing Nan repeats the feat, defeats Tiffany Teo to retain title

China’s Xiong Jing Nan retained her ONE women’s strawweight title at ONE Championship 118, but her rematch win over Tiffany Teo proved to be a much tougher assignment the second time around. Xiong (15-2) defeated Singapore’s Teo (9-2) via fourth-round TKO back in January 2018 to claim the inaugural strawweight title at “ONE Championship 66: Kings of Courage” and went on to register three defenses of her title, while Teo bounced back with a pair of victories to push herself back into title contention. The pair met in the rematch on Friday at “ONE Championship 118: Inside the Matrix” at Singapore Indoor Stadium, as an improved Teo pushed “The Panda” all the way to the scorecards in a tightly-contested five-round battle that was spent predominantly on the feet. However, despite turning in a stronger showing and causing Xiong problems with her cardio and snapping straight jab, Teo couldn’t quite do enough in the stand-up to earn the nod from the three cageside judges, who awarded the Chinese champion a unanimous decision victory

After initially running a host of events during the COVID-19 pandemic that largely focused on the promotion’s muay Thai and kickboxing talent, ONE Championship is all set to unleash the cream of its MMA roster, starting Oct. 30 at “ONE Championship 118: Inside the Matrix.” The promotion has stacked the deck for its return to the Singapore Indoor Stadium, with its six-fight card scheduled to feature four MMA title fights, plus a showcase matchup featuring former lightweight champion Eduard Folayang. ONE Championship 118 takes place Friday, Oct. 30 at in Singapore. The event streams live on the ONE Super App and B/R Live. It’s been a while since we’ve seen ONE’s biggest stars in action, so here’s a quick reminder of their progress as four of their champions prepare to make their return at the end of the month.
