Lightweight Islam Makhachev will face no sanctions or suspension after UFC anti-doping partner USADA investigated a positive test for meldonium and determined the substance was ingested “without fault or negligence,” a press release announced today. Makhachev (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), 24, was pulled from a scheduled fight with Drew Dober at UFC on FOX 19 in April when an out-of-competition test performed April 4 showed an “extremely low meldonium concentration.” But earlier this month, USADA lifted his temporary suspension and he was reinstated to fight Chris Wade (11-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 94, which takes place Sept. 17 at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas. Today’s press release from USADA explains why Makhachev was cleared to fight.
