FORTALEZA, Brazil – Jose Aldo has always been open about two things: He wanted to retire from MMA while still relatively young, and he wanted to be UFC champion when that happened. The first part of the plan remains: Aldo has three fights left on his contract and, as he told reporters during a media day earlier this month, the plan is to fight them all this year, in Brazil, and stop. But, as both Aldo and head coach Andre Pederneiras said that same day, the Brazilian is no longer focused on re-claiming his majesty. Contractually, Aldo said, being champion could lead to automatic renewal clauses that would disrupt his retirement plans.
