Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans was expected to face Daniel Cormier in the UFC 170 co-main event on Feb. 22, but a knee injury suffered in training forced the 34-year-old off the card just ten days before the event. The injury was originally thought to be relatively minor, but after consulting with doctors it was determined that Evans would require surgery and likely be on the sidelines for several months. Evans (21-3-1) released a statement on Tuesday promising to return stronger. “I am deeply disappointed to be missing the action at UFC 170 , but I am, as always, incredibly grateful for the support of my family, friends, management, the UFC, and most of all my fans during this minor setback,” stated Evans. “Thank you for your continued messages of support.
