For three years, the Bellator heavyweight title sat on the shelf. Scott Coker aims to change that soon. After stripping Russian champ Vitaly Minakov of the belt in May, Coker told MMAjunkie Radio that a new champion will be crowned by the first quarter of next year. “It’s going to be a fun run for the belt,” Coker said Thursday. Tonight, two assets in the big-man division – onetime title challenger Cheick Kongo (24-10-2 MMA, 6-2 BMMA) and prospect Tony Johnson (10-2 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) – meet at Bellator 161 to stake their claim as future title contenders.
