Omari Akhmedov LAS VEGAS – Omari Akhmedov  gave it everything he had in the first round of his bout with Mat Nilsson , which nearly cost him dearly in the third round. But after slowing considerably down the stretch and nearly getting caught in two consecutive choke attempts by Nilsson (11-4-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC) in the final moments, Akhmedov (14-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) held on to win the unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) by the skin of his teeth. The welterweight fight was part of today’s UFC 182 card at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
