Fight fans outside of Texas are likely unfamiliar with referee Chris Reed , but it’s also likely he would have been perfectly fine without being noticed in public. According to those who knew him best, Reed valued substance over fame, and making a difference in people’s lives over pretty much everything else. Known for his distinct, welcoming voice and non-stop, positive energy, Reed defined what it means to be a leader. The 50-year-old police chief died last weekend in a tragic boating incident on Texas’ Galveston Bay , leaving a community devastated.
