ABU DHABI – Earlier this month, “UFC Fight Island: Declassified” debuted exclusively on ESPN+. The four-part docuseries, produced by the UFC and directed by award-winning filmmaker Rory Karpf, is full of exclusive behind-the-scenes footage outlining the promotion’s efforts to host a series of four live events on the notorious “Fight Island,” aka Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. With the UFC’s second “Fight Island” run coming to an end with this week’s blockbuster UFC 254 event, I take a look back at my own experience covering one of the most audacious sporting responses to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic one could ever imagine.
