MEXICO CITY – Carla Esparza walked away with the victory Saturday night, but not without having a beer dumped on her head on her way back to the dressing room. After Esparza (15-6 MMA, 6-4 UFC) defeated home-crowd favorite Alexa Grasso in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN+ 17 at Mexico City Arena, the former champion said a “bad apple” in the audience decided to dump a beer on top of her head. The incident wasn’t the only example of rowdy spectator behavior. After his main event with Yair Rodriguez was called off due to an eye poke, Jeremy Stephens was pelted with numerous concessions as he was escorted to the locker room. Esparza, who is of part-Mexican ancestry herself, couldn’t help but feel a bit sad at the way things unraveled. While she has much respect for Mexico and its people, Esparza said she has no tolerance for such behavior.
