Less than three months ahead of Silva’s (33-6 MMA, 16-2 UFC) highly anticipated Jan. 31 pay-per-view headliner with Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC), “The Spider” was hospitalized with back pain earlier this month in Brazil. However, doctors observed him for just a brief period before ultimately releasing him. While back injuries are a serious matter, especially for a pro fighter, Silva downplayed the situation when asked about it at Monday’s “ UFC: The Time Is Now ” press conference in Las Vegas.
