Chris Weidman Fans will be watching tonight’s UFC 184 card while remembering what might have been. The card originally was set to feature a pair of title defenses, but the long anticipated, repeatedly delayed UFC middleweight championship bout between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort was pulled following a Weidman injury. This left women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano as the evening’s replacement main event and lone title fight. If these types of issues feel like they’re happening with great frequency, it’s because they are. Fighters missing weight, main events being canceled, undercard bouts being scratched with high frequency for any thing from training injuries to accidental self-inflicted gunshot wounds to arrests following standoffs with police and fighters failing – or running from – drug tests all have become the standard part of a UFC event’s narrative
